Girl On A Motorcycle

Wed, 03 Jun 2009

The 1968, British film “Girl on a Motorcycle” stared Marianne Faithfull, she was about 20 years old when the movie was shot and I now understand what Mick Jagger saw in her, especially after seeing Faithfull in full leathers riding a bike.  The film was released in the U.S. under the more appropriate title “Naked Under Leather”.  A quick summary; wild girl marries boring guy, girl goes on a motorcycle adventure for excitement, meets bad boy… Hit the jump for the trailer and some footage from the movie. The Fonz Never Really Rode a Motorcycle!

Tue, 02 Jun 2009

According to the “King of Cool” himself, “The Fonz” (Henry Winkler) never actually rode any motorcycles during the ten year Happy Days television run.  Winkler, never rode a bike in real life either, he has dyslexia, which made it difficult for him to co-ordinate the clutch, throttle and brake.  Instead, the bikes (Harley Davidson’s, Triumph’s, BSA’s were used) were mounted on a piece of wood with wheels to make it look like he was riding, even though I am not shocked, I am a little disappointed… You can watch the interview with Winkler, the famous motorcycle jump “The Fonz” made over 14 trashcans and a bonus “Jump the Shark” video after the jump. Get the Flash Player to see this player. “Jump the Shark”, as per Phoghat’s request: Get the Flash Player to see this player.

Does your 2010 Honda Fury have Sloppy Welds?

Tue, 02 Jun 2009

The 2010 Honda Fury Chopper has been out for a few weeks now and people have been buying them up all across North America.  A local Honda dealer revealed to us that he only received 4 choppers from Honda and sold them before they even arrived at his shop. The Fury is at a great price for those who want a stylish chopper look, but are you sacrificing quality for a bargain chopper?  Do sloppy welds break your heart or can you tough it out and live with them knowing you got a unique looking bike at an affordable price? See the full post for pictures and opinions.

Quebec Debates Controversial Motorcycle Rules

Mon, 01 Jun 2009

Often a favored destination for motorcyclists for its vast highways and picturesque scenery, the Canadian province of Quebec may soon be a miserable place for many of the bikers who live there. The provincial auto insurance board known as the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) is proposing a list of new rules that is sure to be unpopular for riders and manufacturers alike. The proposed regulation states that people under the age of 25 and anyone with less than five years of motorcycle riding experience would not be permitted to own or insure motorcycles deemed to be ‘high-risk’ by the board.

New Honda Fury TV Spot is Scary [Video]

Thu, 28 May 2009

Ok, it’s not THAT new… Somehow it slipped passed me back in April.  I guess I was too busy watching people do wheelies on scooters. The new 2010 Honda Fury TV spot has a lot of quick edits of intense scenes including a shark jumping up at your face and various animals and people screaming at you.  Let’s not forget the dude getting punched in the face and people getting blown around by a tornado. Ya, it’s INTENSE and kind of scary.  You don’t see too much of the bike except for it standing stationary near the end.

Riding on the Edge: A Motorcycle Outlaw’s Tale

Tue, 26 May 2009

Few people are able to retrospectively recount the life of an outlaw biker with such accuracy and candor as John Hall, mostly because few people so deeply entrenched within such a culture ever make it out alive. If rival gangs, bar brawls or bike accidents don’t kill them, years of hard drinking and hard living usually do. Hall is an exception to these rules as he successfully transcended this great divide.

Does a Vespa GTS make you want to Dance? [videos]

Tue, 26 May 2009

Vespa has posted up 2 new videos promoting their 2009 Vespa LX 50 4T 4V, 2009 Vespa LX 150 and 2009 Vespa GTS 125 Super. I don’t know about you but I feel like listening to my iPod when watching these videos.  The dancing silhouettes have been done before, Vespa…  Also, the dancing people work better for an advertisement of a music player then for a scooter, but I guess you are trying to show people how much fun Vespa scooters are. And they do look like fun, especially whizzing around some European town.  But are they fun enough to dance too?

Motorcycle Safety Month – Motorcycle Group Riding Signals

Tue, 19 May 2009

It is still Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month so I am still bent on making you aware of safety and motorcycles. Hand signals play a large part in motorcycle riding if you are riding in a group (unless you have those handy helmet radios).  As the “leader of the pack”, they are a great way of letting everyone behind you know what is going on and what to watch out for. The signals are somewhat universal but I’ve thrown in some illustrated guides in this post to help you out.  When riding in a group, your members can decide on which ones work best for you.
