I haven’t built a bike for myself in over 3 years.  So after a horrible 2012 getting cancer again, doing chemotherapy, full body radiation and having a bone marrow transplant.  I was aching to build something I have thought about for years and use the build as therapy while I was recovering to get back into the swing of things.  Everyone knows me for building cafe bikes, well, I actually build motorcycles, any brand any model as long as they are from the 60’s or 70’s.  I wanted to build something I could take off-road or jump off a curb and actually carry stuff with me when I ride.  I bought the donor bike a few years ago and it was soo clean I was unsure if I wanted to even modify it.  But being someone who can never leave good enough or perfect alone, I had to take it to the extreme.  I was collecting many parts for the build over the next few years while it was just sat upstairs in my personal work area.  I did a little mock up here and there over the years to dial in some of the parts I wanted to use.  Then I started to spend every saturday just working on the fabrication.  I basically had to assemble and build the whole bike as it was going to be finished before it was taken apart for all the plating and coatings.  The 40 cal. ammo cans were custom mounted with 70’s Hondaline saddle bag mounts that I chopped up so they would come off and on easy.  The exhaust had to mount under the left side ammo can and the rear suspension was a lot taller so custom gearing and clearance for the chain was needed.  Every nut and bolt that I was using had to be accounted for and all the chrome had to be stripped before the zinc plating.  After mock up everything went out to powder coating, yellow zinc plating, anodizing and paint.  The ammo cans house solar panels from Goal Zero, they charge a flashlight and speakers form Goal Zero too and they charge my iPhone while I ride.  They will charge anything with a USB port.  The tail light is a model A reproduction from Lick’s cycle that I bought over 5 years ago and it pretty much sums up my 2012 year and how I felt against the world! 1972 HONDA CL450 ScramblerAll Original      The CL450 Scrambler hardly needs an introduction. If you are reading this ad, then you likely know the history of these bikes. Following the immediate success of Honda's CL72 250cc Scrambler and the famous Dave Ekins/Bill Robertson Tijuana to La Paz ride in March of 1962 on 250 Scramblers, Honda decided to increase the engine size in increments from 250 to 305, and finally using the DOHC engine of the original Black Bomber, to 450cc.

Get ready to turn heads when you ride this bike around -- you'll get asked about this Scrambler all the time when out riding it. The '69 K1 Scrambler had a couple of features that were exclusive to that year, including a squared exhaust, "extra spoke" wheels, and the reflector on the front fender (surprisingly hard to find these!). This bike was found in a garage a few years back in a disassembled state (parts were in boxes).

A Bigger, Better Trail Bike For Every Rider Photos by Simon Cudby. Honda trail bikes have a knack for turning simple rides into stories worth telling. It’s not just the sound or the smell of fresh dirt and fuel, it’s that feeling of knowing you’re about to have a good time, no matter your skill level.

Let's Talk About Dual Clutch Transmissions

Thu, 30 Oct 2025

The Dual Clutch Transmission, or DCT, is changing how some riders experience motorcycling—and even helping to attract new riders. On paper, it’s a simple idea—let the computer handle the shifting so the rider can just twist the throttle and go. In practice, it makes a full-size motorcycle behave more like an oversized, high-powered scooter.

In the pursuit of podiums Static/Street Photos by Nic de Sena / Track Photos by Max Klein ( Oxymoron Photography) Superbike: a word that instantly stirs the imagination, conjuring visions of streaking horizons, screaming engines, and tachometers buried deep in the red. These are machines born of obsession, built not for compromise but for the pursuit of speed itself — mechanical expressions of purpose that seize a rider’s mind with outrageous power figures and razor-edged intent. Draped in shimmering bodywork and racing colors, they look fast standing still, daring even the most risk-averse among us to tuck behind the bubble.

The BIG Difference Between the Honda CB750 Hornet and the CB1000 SP

Tue, 09 Sep 2025

Tom Roderick spent a day riding the CB1000 Hornet SP and then another on the CB750 Hornet—having the chance to ride the bikes back-to-back makes the differences between the two clear. The 1000 uses an inline four-cylinder with roots in the CBR1000RR, a motor that thrives on revs and rewards a committed hand. It comes wrapped in premium suspension, brakes, and electronics, making it a serious tool when the pace rises and the road opens up.

Since the departure of Honda’s shaft-driven sport-tourers, such as the ST1300 and VFR1200F, Big Red has been out of the road-focused sport-touring game, while aiming much of its efforts at the ever-popular ADV market via its versatile Africa Twin CRF1000L platform. 2025 Honda CB1000 Hornet SP Review – First Ride

Tue, 10 Jun 2025

Replacing the CB1000R with a sharper stinger Photos by Align Media The 2025 CB1000 Hornet SP retails for $10,999. During the Hornet’s press introduction held in California’s capital, Sacramento, Honda representatives confirmed that the bike is built in Japan. A few days later, discussing the Hornet SP with my friend and former MO chief editor, Kevin Duke, he was skeptical, thinking it had to be manufactured in a less-expensive-to-produce country, and rightly so.
