I bought this bike brand new from the dealership in March 1988 and have only put 17454 miles on it. It has always been garage kept and properly maintained. I still love the bike, but am selling it because I have back problems. I rebuilt the carburetors and brake and clutch cylinders and replaced the original brake and clutch lines with Hel brand lines about 4 years ago. I put an Optima battery in it about 3 years ago (and highly recommend them). The Metzler tires are about 2 years old. The seat is a Corbin Canyon Dual Sport seat, a high-quality American-made seat that is much more comfortable than the original (which I have saved and am including with the bike -- the original seat is in near-new condition). The Corbin seat is black with red welting. I have added a few custom touches on the bike. I am a professional machinist, and I designed and made the scoop grill inserts, the low-profile convex washers that hold the Corbin seat on, and the honeycomb-pattern grilles on the back of the radiator housing. The original grilles and original style retaining rings are included in the sale. Other extras included with the motorcycle are a Tracy Wild One Fairing, in near-new condition; a King Cobra motorcycle alarm which would have to be reinstalled by the new owner (though the light is still mounted just below the tachometer); battery tender; and a bit of leftover oil. There is some slight paint scratching and surface corrosion on the aluminum surface due to the age of the bike -- see photos. It has not been mistreated and has never been crashed. I AM HAPPY TO ANSWER QUESTIONS. The bike is located in Gaithersburg, MD, about 20 miles from Washington DC, 5 minutes from Interstate I-270. Selling my awesome VMax. It is time. Wicked fast. Holeshot 4-1 exhaust and muffler, after market shocks (original shocks included), new rear high mileage tire, Corbin seat, and a BrakeAway cruise control. The bike has been down a couple of times as you would expect when you have a fast bike like this. It also has some years on it, so it is pretty clear the bike is used, and has scrapes and dings. The front tire still has some life but should be replaced. The engine is super fast, loud, and fun to ride. The bike occasionally has been slipping out of 2nd gear. I most often just ride up the revs in first gear and then shift to 3rd. This issue can be corrected with a tear down, but as this is no longer my daily ride, and it did not bother me, I have not done anything to correct it. Currently registered non op, Located in Palm Springs, and also listed locally. I had to relist the bike. Wed, 28 Aug 2024Better suspension and Track mode brings us so close to an R9 Photos by Dave Schelske As the tail rider in a train of approximately seven identical Yamahas, I couldn’t help but watch in awe as each of us weaved our way through the notorious Tail of the Dragon, bending the bike underneath us to our will through the 120-something corners, the unison of the dance mesmerizing as each of us took our turn, one by one, around each apex, at irresponsible speeds, front wheels inches away from the person in front of us. This is the kind of trust you build up after you’ve ridden with the same group of people for years on end. We all know that riding with your friends is fun.

One wish still unrealized: the U.S. dealers won’t be getting the up-spec World Raid and numerous other versions of the T7 the EU enjoys - at least not this year.

Thu, 17 Aug 2023Riding 950 miles across three states in two days highlights this Tracer’s capabilities Photography by Joseph Augustin New motorcycle model introductions follow a well-worn path: travel to the event location, eat nice meals, get briefed on the bike of the moment, ride a route designed to highlight the bike’s strengths, take photos/video, eat more good food, return home, and write up a review. After 27 years in this industry, I still get a cheap thrill about throwing a leg over a new motorcycle before it is available to the general public. However, what really gets me going is when I have a chance to log more than just the couple of hundred miles typically covered in an intro and spend some real time on the road with said bike.

Thu, 06 Apr 2023Sport-tourer equipped with radar-based adaptive cruise control Last November, Yamaha Motor Europe revealed a new Tracer 9 GT+ at EICMA, a new version of its Triple-powered sport tourer equipped with a 7-inch TFT display, adaptive cruise control, and a radar-linked unified braking system. Yamaha Motor USA, however, remained quiet about it, and we later learned the Tracer 9 GT+ was not coming to the States for 2023. In fact, even the less techy regular Tracer 9 was left out of Yamaha Motor USA’s returning model announcements.
