The Sherpa of things to come Royal Enfield designed and built this motorcycle in India, for Indians, a few years ago, with no plans really to export it. Why bother? India took over from China last year as the world’s biggest motorcycle market; Indians buy something like 48,000 motos a day (which probably includes lots of scooters and mopeds, but you get the picture – something like 17.7 million a year).

We go inside the Indian company's English development facility Thomas R. “Big Tom” Callahan, Jr., an auto parts salesman from Sandusky, Ohio, once said, “You can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking your head up a bull’s ass, but wouldn’t you rather take a butcher’s word for it?” When it comes to steak, we at MO would be inclined to heed the butcher’s advice, but when it comes to motorcycles, we’d prefer to take that “deeper” look to see for ourselves… Royal Enfield’s UK Technology Center in Leicestershire, England was opened in May 2017 and is situated on the privately owned Bruntingthorpe Proving Grounds. Royal Enfield has made a sizable investment to the tune of £100 million (about $120 million at the time), and the new engineering and design facility is truly first class.

EICMA 2017: Royal Enfield 648 Twin Revealed

India's oldest brand gets two cylinders of freeway-capable power Update: Following details of its new 648cc Twin, Royal Enfield unveiled two models that will use the new powerplant, the 2018 Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. I’ve ridden and enjoyed the latest iterations of Royal Enfield’s single-cylinder models, but none of them, not even the top-spec (29 horsepower) Continental GT café-racer, make enough power to be comfortable to ride in modern, high-speed traffic conditions. Until now, at least.

Putting the brakes on a rumor Ever since Reuters broke the news last month that Volkswagen is considering unloading Ducati, the rumor mill has been at full churn trying to figure out where the Italian company would end up. Volkswagen, of course, is on the hook for billions in penalties as a result of the Dieselgate scandal, and finding someone willing to fork over a ten-digit check for Ducati would definitely help. The list of potential suitors for Ducati isn’t that long.

Pierre Terblanche and the Royal Enfield Himalayan

Wed, 04 Mar 2015

Conceptual illustration and speculation about Pierre Terblanche's first Indian motorcycle The rendering above comes courtesy of www.IndianCarsBikes.in which illustrates its ideas for what the upcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan might look like. We think it probably overestimates the amount of suspension travel and windscreen height. The exhaust design also seems unlikely, with low routing that would be damaged in off-road riding and a muffler that is way too small to adequately quiet a biggish Single.
