BMW R-Series description

'75 R75/6 in excellent condition.  S/N 4940796. I am second owner. First owner purchased it new and put a lot of miles on it.I ride it frequently.  Currently about 97,800 miles on the clock.  Engine re-build in 2006 at 85,000 miles by none other than Oak Okleshen (tech guy for the Airhead's Club) in Illinois. I have receipts. Recent seat replacement. New cables. Burns no oil. No oil leaks. Tires are excellent, new battery, new original paint color done professionally about three years ago. After-market windscreen I installed myself (struts weren't quite long enough, I epoxied them). Both stopcocks replaced several years ago. Shocks replaced several years ago. Both the tach and the clock have been checked and refurbished last year. This bike always serviced to the minute, stored in heated, enclosed garage, concrete floor. Anything this bike needed it got. I ride this bike back & forth to work all the time. It was checked over recently by the one guy at my local BMW dealer that works on these old bikes, pronounced AOK, no safety issues, no impending big repair or maintenance work.

Dent in underside of rider's left muffler (see photo) was there when I bought the bike. I never noticed it till recently. Muffler intact. I never got around to replacing the muffler.

I am getting older and I ride less, so time to thin the herd in my back garage. I have several other vintage bikes.

2022 BMW K1600 B Review First Ride

Fri, 24 Jun 2022

The best American bagger is the Bavarian one with the Inline-Six Have I at long last, no sense of decency? Road test after road test, I shamelessly fawn and toady over all these $30,000 motorcycles loaned to me by the masters of the universe who produce them… I do feel some guilt, but this is really the only job skill I’ve got. Thankfully, sometimes the motorcycle makes it really easy to gush, which is the case with BMW’s freshly overhauled K1600 line.

2011-2013 BMW F800GS and F700GS Recalled in Canada

Wed, 19 Jun 2013

Transport Canada announced a recall for the 2011-2013 BMW F800GS and the 2013 F700GS because of a problem with the kickstand ignition cut-off switch. The switch is designed to turn off the engine when the stand is down and the motorcycle is shifted into gear; this prevents the motorcycle from being ridden with the kickstand deployed. On certain BMW F800GS and F700GS models however, the cut-off switch can loosen and become damaged.

BMW Streamlines WSBK Program, Hands Reins to BMW Italia

Mon, 16 Jul 2012

BMW announced it realigning its World Superbike Championship program, with BMW Motorrad Italia taking over as the company’s factory team in 2013. The German manufacturer is currently represented by two teams in the WSBK championship, the BMW Motorrad with Marco Melandri and Leon Haslam and the BMW Motorrad Italia Goldbet team represented by Michel Fabrizio and Ayrton Badovini (there is also a privateer effort of Mark Aitchison riding a BMW S1000RR for the Grillini Progea team.) Next year however, BMW’s Milan-based Italian arm will be responsible for the factory team as well as chassis development and testing. BMW Motorrad itself will focus on developing the power train and electronics.
