Yamaha YZF-R description

I'm relisting the bike, I took it off eBay a couple weeks ago because I wanted to keep it. I ended up impulsively buying a 1200GS last week to do some touring in Mexico, so I'm going to sell the R1 again.

It is a clean titled 1999 Yamaha R1, which was converted into a naked bike. The bike runs well, and makes for a reliable commuter or canyon carver.

I would not hesitate riding this bike across the country if I really needed to, she's extremely reliable and competent at high speeds and on wet surfaces.

I've put 3,000 miles on this bike in the last 2 months, making trips to Rosarito Beach, and I haven't had any issues whatsoever. I've given the bike an oil and filter change every 1400-1500 miles, with the last oil and filter change done last week. The bike makes no weird noises and has done nothing towards me to suspect that it has any issues.

This R1 was converted by the previous owner who decided to convert it into a naked bike. The owner, who I bought the bike from, was an older gentleman who said the bike was beginning to become too heavy for his ability, so he wanted to sell it. There has been absolutely no mechanical problems with the bike since I've purchased it.

The Good
-Mechanically sound
-Engine and transmission are smooth
-Clutch is strong and grabs excellent
-Carbon Fiber Yoshimura Exhaust, loud
-Comfortable riding position, especially for commuting, soft seat
-It will come with fresh oil change, fresh filter
-Brakes and brake fluid are good and clean
-No leaks, everything is sealed.
-The dashboard works great, such as the speedometer, gas light, odometer, trip meter, etc).
-Headlight, blinkers, and brake lights all work and illuminate well
-Chain and Sprocket in excellent condition (the chain will be clean and lubed upon pickup for the new buyer)

The Bad
-Rear tire could use replacement sometime in the near future (I'd say there's 500-750 miles left on the current rear tire, or more if you really stretch it). The tire is still good to ride home safely
-Tiny JB weld done professionally on left side of crankcase (it's reportedly been there for 5000 miles, and it's completely sealed and sound in my experience).
-The dashboard doesn't illuminate at night, nor does the neutral light, but it's very easy to find neutral on the bike, not really an issue at all
-Could use new headlamp bulbs soon, as they dim for split seconds randomly at times. HID bulbs are fairly cheap on Amazon. But for now the bulbs are just fine.

This is seriously a spectacular and reliable bike. It's just as fast as any bike out there. It gets a lot of looks too if you care about that.

If you have any questions regarding the bike or want more pictures, don't hesitate to shoot me a text @ 949-680-9297. You can also come and see the bike if you'd like to test ride (with cash in hand) or bring your mechanic. I'm okay with shipping the bike as long as you set things up with the shipper (I shipped my GS from Florida to California last week, and it was $450, just to give you a rough estimate of motorcycle shipping costs). The bike is listed locally so I will end this listing if it sells locally, before someone buys it on eBay.

Thank you.

Day 2 Dakar 2014: Sunderland Wins First Special Stage

Mon, 06 Jan 2014

Honda won the second day of competition with Team HRC’s Sam Sunderland claiming victory in the first special stage of this year’s Dakar. Sunderland has had a frustrating time at previous Dakars, dropping out after three days of racing in 2012 and withdrawing a month before last year’s event due to fracturing both his wrists. Today, however, Sunderland made a grand entrance into the club of elite riders by brilliantly winning his first special stage of this year’s Dakar. Having started well behind his teammate, Joan Barreda, the 23-year old Brit superbly overtook Michael Metge and Juan Pedrero on the first part of the route.
