This motorcycle is in great condition. It was given fresh paint and upholstery in 2007. It gets regular service, and only synthetic oil. No mechanical issues and no leaks. It starts and runs well. But it is 36 years old and does have its quirks, such as being cold blooded, and it sometimes requires feathering of the throttle at stops. The bike does have normal patina for its age, and I have included several photos to show examples. This a great looking classic 1970s bike, and I get a lot of complements, especially because it is a triple. This is a custom 1978 Yamaha XS650. The bike started out as a stock bike in great shape and was taken apart, chopped and a TC Brothers hard tail was installed. The frame, motor, and sheet metal is all done in metallic blue powder coat. The rims were blasted and powder coated black then new bearings were installed and Firestone Deluxe tires. The electrical system was updated with a new regulator rectifier which was mounted in a fake oil tank with a sealed battery and all other electrical parts. All wiring is made of modern cloth coated wire which has silicon heat shielding and was hidden in copper pipe. The exhaust was custom made with solid brass tips which match the grips and pegs. All starter parts were removed from the motor in an effort to reduce weight and the bike is kick start only. The forks and triple trees were shaved and polished as were the brake calipers. The rear master cylinder is made of glass, brass and billet aluminum and the gas cap is also made of brass. The seat is custom hand tooled leather. Lots of custom parts on this bike. I made the bike in 2012 so it has four year of wear on it, see pictures. The battery was just replaced in the bike. The bike was involved in a collision which affected the left side of the engine. Besides breaking the cover over the bikes distributor, it doesn’t appear to have damaged anything else on the bike. MULE Motorcycles Yamaha XS 650 Flat Tracker (1978)
We have a beautiful Yamaha XS 650 Flat Tracker built by Mule Motorcycles, this bike was featured in the March 2007 issue of Iron Horse Magazine. This bike features a late 70's xs650 frame that was modified to accept a C&J head tube, a new down tube was fabricated with all chromoly tubing with all of the new engine mount bolts being grade 8 steel. The front end consists of custom clamps holding Showa adjustable dampening forks from a Buell X-1 Lightning attached to stainless handlebars from Woods racing and a headlight assembly from a Harley Sportster. The motor was completed disassembled and rebuilt, case were powdercoated with the top end being bead blasted. Mule Motorcycles used a Shell big bore 750 "street kit" along with all new gaskets and seals, new brass oil screens and finshed it off with new Barnett clutch springs. 34mm Mikuni carbs were used to get the fuel to the engine with K&N air filters to keep all of the dirt elements out of the motor while using a modified Triumph Speed Triple slipon exhaust system. Mon, 15 Aug 2022It's the King of the Masters of Torque Credit: Photos by Joe Augustin Heaping praise upon Yamaha’s naked bikes has become all too easy lately. Yes, the MT-07 did get dethroned in last year’s Middleweight Naked comparison, but not by much – and it took brand-new motorcycles from Aprilia and Triumph to do it. When it came time for the 900cc(ish) Nakeds last August, the newly revamped MT-09 surprised a couple people by taking the cake against KTM Duke 890 and five other very nice and mostly more expensive motorcycles.

Mon, 20 Jun 2022FIM approves track-only YZF1000W model A recently updated list of FIM-approved competition vehicles indicates that a new track-only Yamaha YZF-R1 is on the way for the 2023 model year. And if this is true, then we may also expect a significantly updated street legal 2023 R1 too. The International Motorcycling Federation maintains a spreadsheet titled “FIM Recognized Competition Vehicles” that includes approved racing-only models.

Wed, 25 May 2022The sportiest Sport Heritage Credit: Photos by Adam Campbell | Videos by Sean Matic Some of us were a bit surprised when Yamaha’s newly overhauled 2021 MT-09 snagged first place in last summer’s 900cc(ish) Naked Bike Comparison, against such more-expensive heavy hitters as the new Ducati Monster and KTM Duke 890. And all of us were a little surprised when the XSR900 defeated Indian FTRs 1200 and 1200S, and the now-defunct Monster 1200S, in an only slightly unfair 2019 comparo. (Slightly unfair because our test route was really nothing but tight, twisty roads.) Now, the 2022 XSR900 is newly overhauled just as last year’s MT-09 was, using all the same parts from the waist down, including the new super-sized 890 cc version of that most excellent CP3 three-cylinder and all its electronic controls.

Fri, 18 Mar 2022Swappable batteries help extend range, but only to a point Following the initial announcement of its electric mobility strategy, Yamaha has released full specifications for the NEO’s scooter and confirmed proof-of-concept testing of the larger E01 model will commence in July. Yamaha has described the NEO’s as providing performance on par with a 50cc gasoline-powered scooter. We now know the NEO’s offers a claimed peak output of 3.4 hp, with a nominal power output of 3.1 hp.

The announcement confirmed our report last week that it would include an electric scooter called the “NEO’s”, but the 50cc-equivalent model was only scratching the surface. The presentation provided a general outline of Yamaha’s approach to electrification, though it did leave us wanting more.

It joins Yamaha’s European lineup alongside the regular Ténéré 700, plus a Rally Edition version which we don’t get in the U.S. We first saw the World Raid at EICMA as a prototype equipped with a number of Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing (GYTR) performance parts.

The Ténéré 700 Raid was shown at EICMA in prototype form as an even more off-road capable version of the Ténéré 700. While the prototype was essentially a Ténéré 700 modified with Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing (GYTR) performance parts, the designed filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office appears ready for series production.
