In Qatar the technical inspection staff made the factory Yamaha mechanics remove bodywork and unbolt some electrical components in order to get a better look at the guts of the 2011 M1. Everything was in order of course but what a great opportunity for the scrutineers to exercise their power and have a poke around the most high tech Yamaha on the planet.

But at least Yamaha is stepping up to the plate and increasing its contingency program for club level road racers 50% over last year. According to Yamaha, the program is designed to encompass a broad spectrum of road racing series across the U.S., from numerous club-level and regional sprint series events to the AMA Pro Road Racing series, including the addition of the ASRA Team Challenge Endurance Series.

When it came time for the 900cc(ish) Nakeds last August, the newly revamped MT-09 surprised a couple people by taking the cake against KTM Duke 890 and five other very nice and mostly more expensive motorcycles.
