Yamaha Applies for R3 Trademark in US

Last week, we broke the news that Yamaha had filed a trademark application for the European Union for the use of “YZF-R3” and “R3“. Yamaha has re-launched its popular Super Sport Virtual Bike Show for owners of all Yamaha sport bikes to showcase their creativity to all on Yamaha’s website. Entries may be submitted from now until Dec 31, 2014 by going to http://www.yamahamotorsports.com/sport/supersportvbs/show.aspx and all Yamaha sport bikes are eligible. Each month, a “Bike of the Month” will be selected out of all the entries submitted and the winners of this award will receive their choice of Yamaha apparel worth up to $100.

OEMs Plug into Electric Bikes

KTM introduced its prototype electric motorcycle earlier this week, and electric bike manufacturer Zero Motorcycles almost immediately responded by opening sales on its 2009 Zero X dirt bike (look for our review of the 2008 model next week!). But these two companies aren’t the only ones exploring the possibilities of electric-powered motorcycles. In September, Japan’s largest industrial information journal Nikkei Business Daily reported that both Honda and Yamaha have set target dates for launching their own electric-powered motorcycles.
