Yamaha reported a 5.4% decrease in net sales for 2012 and a 72.2% decrease in profit but the Japanese manufacturer says it is poised for a dramatic recovery as it begins its “New Medium-Term Management Plan” for 2013-2015. Yamaha Building New Factory in India

Yamaha has received approval from the government of India to build a new factory in Chennai in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. Joining an existing factory near New Delhi, the new Chennai plant is expected to increase Yamaha‘s production capabilities in India to 2.8 million units a year by 2018. The new factory will be built on a 109-acre lot in Vallam Vadagal on the outskirts of Chennai.

Yamaha has released additional images and a video of its new PES1 electric motorcycle for the concept’s debut at the Tokyo Motor Show. The new photographs, shot at Yamaha’s display at the Tokyo show, show more details about the PES1 concept, which Yamaha first announced earlier this month. The PES1 shares the same electric DC brushless motor, lithium-ion battery and monocoque frame as the PED1 concept which also took its bow in Tokyo.
