Yamaha Other description

06/77 Production date Yamaha RD400. Yes this bike has 3406 miles and they are original. I was skeptical at first as well. However the bike had the original tires from when it was made by the date on them. the speedo cable was in perfect shape. and there was still a plate from 1979 bolted to the plate holder from when it was last registered!! What a great barn find.  I went through and restored the bike to better than new using some upgraded parts. examples being stainless brake lines, newer technology brake pads, better brake fluid, longer lasting glass mat battery, radial tires for more performance.  The bike had suffered from lots of light surface rust. I had all the frame components and fenders sand blasted and powder coated! It will never rust again.  The tank and side covers were repainted and new graphics applied, also the fuel tank got a kreem coating to prevent any internal rust issues down the road. New suspension in the rear and rebuilt in the front with gators installed so no more bugs get into the seals. New chain, custom fiberglass seat with new foam and cover, both brake calipers have been rebuilt and new front master installed with a rebuilt rear master. Tires are near new they have about 1500 miles on them since installed. Engine tested perfect on the compression and leak down test therefore no internal repairs have been made to it. I did replace all the external seals. Carbs have been cleaned and rebuilt. I have been running motul red oil (premix to protect the engine)   This bike is a blast to ride, however I have another project and its time to part ways.

Anti clockwise Knockhill and riding in the North East with GP winners.

Wed, 06 Jun 2012

I was both nervous and excited for my first ever reverse direction track day last week at Knockhill. From rushing downhill into the left hand off camber hairpin to sweeping up onto the start/finish, nothing bears any resemblance to riding round clockwise. I actually raced my 350LC in the opposite direction in 1982 but it still took a few laps to get my head round what essentially is a brand new track for Scotland.
