R1 noise, bike porn and a quick lap

Tue, 24 Apr 2012

Trawling the internet for a sound clip of the Crossplane Crank Yamaha R1 on full chatter, I came across this: a few fast laps on board with New Zealand Superbike racer Tony Rees as he works the CABS Throttle Blipper on his 2011 R1. (Skip to 7:35 for the fast ones.) CABS is a system used by Superbike teams that makes use of the R1’s digitally controlled throttle. The 2012 V Star 950 (and the more touring-oriented V Star 950 Tourer) is powered by a fuel-injected air-cooled 942cc 60 degree V-Twin engine with a five-speed transmission. Yamaha estimates fuel economy at 47 mpg from the 4.5 gallon tank.

New Photos and Video of Yamaha PES1 Electric Concept

Wed, 20 Nov 2013

Yamaha has released additional images and a video of its new PES1 electric motorcycle for the concept’s debut at the Tokyo Motor Show. The new photographs, shot at Yamaha’s display at the Tokyo show, show more details about the PES1 concept, which Yamaha first announced earlier this month. The PES1 shares the same electric DC brushless motor, lithium-ion battery and monocoque frame as the PED1 concept which also took its bow in Tokyo.
