Get to Croom NOW! - Keeping our ears to the dirt has been critically important over the years, and weve been picking up some seriously strong vibrations ever since we built the worlds first modern four-stroke motocrosser. Making improvements is how we continue to evolve a tighter, quicker, easier-to-deploy package. The YZ450Fs high-revving counterbalanced 449cc liquid-cooled five-titanium valved 39mm Keihin-carbureted single is pure moto winning magic. Upgrades for 2004 consist of a rigid 48mm fork with new settings for a smooth, compliant and progressive feel. New, titanium footpegs and gripper-style seat cover material improve the crucial interface between man and machine -- and man, what a machine: 222 pounds of high-tensile steel-framed, loam-launching, terrain-following, thrill-seeking motocross machine. Yamaha-exclusive five titanium valve head (three intake, two exhaust) reduces reciprocating mass and helps make 11,000 rpm a regularly recurring event. Bringing a 95mm piston to life against 12.5:1 compression can be hard work YZ450Fs genius auto-decompression system and hot start lever make it quite easy. And four speeds are plenty, given the YZ450Fs seismic spread of power -- and a heavy-duty clutch that gets the power to the ground consistently. Live from the launch of the Yamaha FZ8

Sun, 18 Apr 2010

THAT, MY FRIENDS, is our test rider's transportation to the 2010 Yamaha FZ8 launch in Marseille. Today, Jon Urry will endure 700 miles in a bazzed-up Ford Transit with other UK bike journalists, thanks to the infamous cloud of volcanic ash that's turning our skies a worrying shade of crystal-clear blue. So check back later for Jon's updates on their progress to southern France.

Canada Gets Race Blu 2013 Yamaha Fazer8

Fri, 07 Dec 2012

Back in September, Yamaha revealed a special “Race Blu” livery for a the YZF-R1, YZF-R6 and the YZF-R125 for the European market. Yamaha promoted the new color scheme with Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies sporting the colors on their leathers and M1 race bikes at the Misano and Aragon MotoGP rounds. North American consumers were left out, however, getting a Team Yamaha Blue and White version instead for the R1 and R6 (the R125 isn’t offered here either).

Filling a void with an RD350LC

Mon, 29 Jul 2013

Last winter I managed to fill a void in my life when I stumbled on a very reasonably priced Yamaha RD350LC.  It was a tad scruffy, had the wrong exhausts but most importantly it was blue and white with all numbers matching.  I had the usual euphoria when the deal was done but I underestimated how much pleasure this particular purchase would continue to deliver another eight months down the line. The difference with this old bike is, instead of just taking it for the occasional ride I was talked into doing a full nut and bolt restoration.  Having never taking a bike apart completely before, initially it was quite daunting but I soon found the RD is easy to work on so it turned into a truly satisfying experience.  I’ve had some help from LC enthusiasts with the rebuild, however, the stripping, sourcing and organising was a total labour of love.  And call me sad but it has made me bond with this bike like no other which only adds to the feel good factor.  The bike cost £1800 and I’ve spent around £1000 but I reckon my mint Elsie is now worth a fair bit more.   I fancy rejuvenating a Fizzy  next time but there’s lots of other cheap 70’s and 80’s winter projects  out there so why not have a go yourself?
