Crowned MX Action's 2002 " 80cc of the Year" (in its very first year, no less), this potent little screamer is everything the budding young factory racer could ask for. Small-bore world domination starts right here. With a liquid-cooled, 85cc, case-reed, two-stroke engine putting down wicked, corner-launching low- and mid-range power and blistering top-end through a slick-shifting 6-speed transmission. Seamless throttle response is provided at all RPM by way of its 28mm Keihin flat-slide carb. And race-bred chassis design - featuring a rigid, lightweight twin-spar frame and swingarm, and adjustable, YZ250/125-spec suspension - that lets you soak up the whoops. Their secret for being so good at what they do is that they totally immerse themselves in Yamaha by working at the Yamaha offices. Hilarity ensues. James Toseland works the mail room, while Colin Edwards does security, quoting Eric Cartman from a 10 year-old-South Park episode. Jorge Lorenzo is washing windows and Valentino Rossi is working the front desk.
A breath of fresh air
Fri, 09 Nov 2012Dean Benstead's air-powered bike project, O2 Pursuit, which we spoke about a year ago, seems to have come along nicely since. Here's a video of the Australian's rotary air compression-engined Yamaha WR250R being taken out for a spin. Apparently it can hit 87 mph and cover more than 60 miles on a scuba-tankful's worth.
