The 2013 MotoGP Championship has taken a dramatic turn after defending champion Jorge Lorenzo broke his collarbone in a high-speed crash during practice for this weekend’s TT Assen in the Netherlands. The Yamaha factory rider was the overall leader after a dry morning practice session. The afternoon was rainy however, creating slippery conditions.

Dennis Charlett is stamping his authority on the New Zealand Superbike championship. The 45 year-old father of five and grandfather of three (no, those aren’t typos) won the first three races of the season during the series opener in Christchurch, placing him firmly at the top of the points standings heading into round two at Levels Raceway, near Timaru. The championship favorite certainly got the wake-up call as Taupo’s Suzuki rider Scott Moir raced to a convincing win in Saturday’s Superbike race, while Charlett was forced to settle for fourth place.

Morning commuters in Barcelona got a little surprise yesterday from Yamaha and Jorge Lorenzo as the reigning MotoGP Champion and his crew re-created their usual race start ritual on a public street in front of the iconic Sagrada Familia. The roar of Lorenzo’s Yamaha YZR-M1 drew people’s attention as mechanics, data engineers and a lone Brolly Girl emerged.
