Body Design
The Yamaha XJ550 Maxim was a custom cruiser bike, with an exposed engine, no fairing and a design that went heavy on the chrome and light on the plastic. In fact, the engine, the exhaust pipe and the chassis were all chrome-plated. The seat was designed to allow the rider to lean back while riding, with his arms and legs stretched out in front of him to touch the handlebars and footpegs.
Value
When it was new, the Yamaha XJ550 Maxim went for $2,599 to $2,699. As of 2012, a used Maxim may fetch anywhere from $400 for a "fixer-upper" model to $1,650 for a model in good condition.
