Up for sale is my 1977 Yamaha RD400 showing just over 16000 original miles. I purchased it in original, numbers matching, running condition in November of 2005 with 12,604 miles and since then it's gotten some work done. It was taken down to the frame, and all parts were cleaned and reassembled. If something needed to be replaced or rebuilt it was. I did a leak down and compression test on the engine and it tested well, so I left it alone. It has been kept in an insulated heated garage since I've owned it and only ridden occasionally (hence the sale). The general condition of the bike is fantastic. There are some cosmetic flaws in the paint,and they are shown in the photos (There are 2 chips in the paint on the tank, and there are two pieces of red tape on the oil tank covering chips that were there when I bought it...it's an unbelievable match to the Chappy red paint!) The paint and graphics are original and both are in fantastic shape. This is a classic that looks great, but is a 100% reliable and solid running bike, It starts predictably on the second kick, and never gives any surprises. At speed it handles beautify with no wobbles, wiggles, or anything else. speeds of 100+ mph are no problem. The pipes come on cleanly, and pull plenty hard, but you would have no issues getting on it in the morning and riding to work in traffic. This bike is a joy to ride. This bike is still on its stock bore, and it rips! Here's a list of what it currently has: -Moto Carrera Millennium GP pipes with 6" M Factory west cans. (Oiled finish to show off the discoloration. The bike sounds amazing with the short cans!), -Carbs modded with R5 brass, 1/4 aluminum carb spacers with balance tube and intake boots from the Yamaha Banshee, -TDR reeds -Low rise black "superbike" bars -stock oil injection (works flawlessly, and was rebuilt) -race tech emulators, race tech springs in the front -520 chain conversion, sprocket specialists front and rear sprockets (ultralight and titan-tough rear), -Aluminum swing arm 1" longer than stock.(Anodized Black) (Bronze bushings installed) -Rear drum brake with a gutted/lightened drum and shoes, -Excel aluminum wheels with Buchanan tapered stainless spokes and nipples (properly built by me to a ridiculous tolerance using an excel spoke torque wrench on stock RD350 hubs). -Drilled front rotor -Magura hydraulic clutch (from a KTM) with adjustable push rod -Vintage Smoke rearsets, -Powdercoated black fenders and battery box. -HVC seatvcover. -Still has the stock kickstand, but it was modified to fit with the pipes, yet still have a normal lean angle. (if you're familiar with these bikes, you know what I mean...if not her you go: some people modify the kickstand to clear the pipes, but then when you go to use the kickstand, the bike leans way over... this bike doesn't do that.) This bike has lots to offer, and as you can see the parts section is top-notch. It is NOT a show bike (as you can tell). Absolutely nothing on this bike is perfect, but as a whole it has always gotten great compliments, and comments wherever it goes. It is literally just a great looking, great running bike. You could pick this bike up and literally ride it home.... it doesn't matter where you live. ***Here are the only negative things that could possibly be mentioned: - The On/Off kill switch does not work (you have to use the key...you will get two of them) - The the "light on/off" doesn't do anything, but I'm pretty sure that's by design (you cant turn the lights off). - I had this bike inspected once because I was told to by local police officer :), but that was several years ago and now it wont pass ONLY because there is no brake light switch for the rear brakes. It's easy to mount one, but I never bothered because I only ever really touch the rear brake if something gets a little wild.. The original switch was part of the master cylinder (which was problematic on these bikes), and when I converted to drum, I left it alone. The factory wires and master mount are still there and unmolested. -The bottom of the left expansion chamber is creased in from bottoming out on an old trailer I had, but it's been that way for years and it's never caused an issue. If you search "Oily Pipes" on Youtube, there's a few clips of it. I think you'll like what you hear :) On Jul-24-16 at 22:29:03 PDT, seller added the following information: I forgot to mention the Progressive 12 series shocks in the rear with lighter springs for my weight...180 lbs. (Stiffer springs are included, but not installed...I would sell the progressive branded tool to the winner if interested.) -Folding CRG bar end mirror -K&N filter with Y-boot (y-boot is like new) -Carbs have just been gone through, and new lines and filters installed. |
