Vincent All description

Vincent Starrett. THE PRIVATE LIFE OF SHERLOCK HOLMES. Illustrated by photographs. new York: Macmillan, 1933. First edition, first printing. Publisher's gilt blue cloth with design of Holmes framed on cover. Chicago Renaissance author Vincent Starrett's best known work, later reissued by the University of Chicago Press in what is considered an inferior edition. A fine, unmarked, bright hardcover book in the rare dust jacket which remains very good  with a small spine chip not affecting text. There small internal archival tissue reinforcements to the inner edges, not visible from the front, as the jacket was made on rather thin paper and the previous owner lacked plastic covering and wanted to preserve the jacket as much as possible (s/he succeeded, as one may judge from the pictures). Price-clipped, obviously by a later bookseller for resale; otherwise a better than very good, clean jacket in a Brodart cover. Extremely rare in a dust jacket in any condition.

Classic Japanese Bikes Highlight Bonhams’ Next Auction

Mon, 07 Oct 2013

Bonhams’ annual fall auction, the Classic Motorcycle Mechanics Show, at Stafford County Showground is scheduled for October 20, 2013. Included in the auction is the above pictured 1974 Kawasaki H1-RW 500cc triple. Expected to sell for approximately $96,000 to $112,000, the Japanese works Grand Prix racer is one of only two machines built by the factory for the French Kawasaki importer SIDEMM for use in the 500cc World Championship. The bikes were ridden during the 1974 season by the French endurance racing specialist Christian Léon and French-Canadian Formula 750 star Yvon Duhamel.

Record Breaking Vincent Black Shadow Is Top Seller At Bonhams Auction

Mon, 29 Apr 2013

A fully restored, ex-works 1952 Vincent Black Shadow was the top selling motorcycle at the Bonhams auction, held at the International Classic Motorcycle Show at the Staffordshire County Showground on Sunday, April 28, selling for £113,500 (US $176,341 after premiums). This Black Shadow was part of the factory’s bid to set a new 24-hour speed record at Montlhéry in France in May 1952. Mechanical troubles prevented that from happening, but the team still came away with eight records, including six hours at over 100 mph.

Video: 180bhp N2O injected Vincent

The Greek God Epithemeus - the name of this three-wheeled, 180bhp Vincent record breaker - was the brother of Prometheus. Epithemeus (meaning afterthought) was the creator of many dangerous, ill thought-out beasts. Unlike his dilligent brother, Epithemeus was a bit of a f**kwit who threw everything at his powerful new animal creations with little thought of the consequences. A perfect name, then.
