Bob Gibson 1989 St. Vincent Series 2
Item is Near Mint or better

SAMPLES from this set in the scan. BUT the SINGLE NAMED PLAYER ONLY. Size is approximately 2" x 1-1/2".

This stamp is from a Major League Baseball licensed set possibly released in late 1989. A few stamps have banners noting 1989 achievements such as Nolan Ryan's 5,000 strikeout - Aug 22, 1989. Additionally, there is a stamp commemorating the late baseball commissioner Bart Giamatti, who died Sep 1, 1989.

There are 81 in the issue, originally on 9 sheets of 9 stamps each. Each stamp says "U. S. Baseball Series 2". This series may be a follow up to the white background Award Winners set. There are two pictures on each stamp, a portrait and game action view. Similar to the 1988 Grenada set, with a mixture of current players and retired stars. Also, for some reason, Padre owner and McDonalds magnate Ray Kroc.

Some later St Vincent stamp sets are listed in the Beckett guides but this series has not yet been included.

Video: 180bhp N2O injected Vincent

Tue, 21 Feb 2012

The Greek God Epithemeus - the name of this three-wheeled, 180bhp Vincent record breaker - was the brother of Prometheus. Epithemeus (meaning afterthought) was the creator of many dangerous, ill thought-out beasts. Unlike his dilligent brother, Epithemeus was a bit of a f**kwit who threw everything at his powerful new animal creations with little thought of the consequences. A perfect name, then.

1 of 11Next Last   Motorcycles and rock ‘n’ roll. Ever since The King threw his leg over his ’56 Harley-Davidson and the Black Rebels rolled into Carbonville, the combination of motorcycles and rock have been as combustible as gas and spark. Early moto-rock lived for the most part on the fringes of pop music, in the pomped-up rockabilly of guys like Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent.
