Suzuki Other description

Up for auction - 1976 Suzuki GT 500 very clean original mileage motorcycle. Nice paint. Recent thorough carburetor cleaning, tune-up - plugs, oil change. Oil injection system was cleaned, fresh oil and oil pump was tested to insure proper operation. Caliper and master cylinder rebuild and Brake fluid change. New battery. Original seat pan and foam with high quality cover.  It starts right up and runs very nice. Shifts as it should. Stops as it should.  All the electrical works correctly. It is in good condition and has slight patina. I replaced the points and clutch side engine decals (NOS). Nice bike to buzz around town with. Very easy to handle. Plenty of that 2 stroke power. Overall very good condition. The upgrades - battery, seat cover, spark plugs and engine cover decals. Everything else seems to be original.

Info:
The Suzuki GT500 replaced the T500 twin in 1975. The new model looked very much like the classic T500, once sensationally fast and well-built machine, but in the mid-seventies already old-fashioned and smoky two-stroker. Its days were outnumbered. Suzuki made a good effort trying to modernize the once very popular model by releasing the GT500 that had a bigger tank, electronic ignition and a front disk brake.

Confusingly, the T500 was renamed to GT500 already in 1971 in Japan, but the rest of the world didn't even know about it.
The GT500 wore a single
front hydraulic disk brake, identical to that which had been fitted to the GT380 and GT550. The forks were similar as well having 35mm stanchions and identical triple clamps to the GT range. The instruments were also identical to those found on the GT range.
Another example of parts rationalization was the use of the GT750 fuel tank on the GT500. A plastic insert replaces the unnecessary radiator access flap on the front of the tank. The larger tank gave welcome extra range to the 500 but didn't necessary make the machine more beautiful (a matter of an opinion). A new seat accompanied the change of tank.

Retro Rumble Redux: Kawasaki Z900RS Vs Suzuki Katana

Fri, 28 Feb 2020

Katana Hot Tin Roof Credit: Videos by Sean Matic Lately, it’s like time travel around here. A couple years ago we put the then-new Kawasaki Z900RS up against the Suzuki GSX-S1000 in a slightly apples-to-oranges comparo, Retro or Not(ro), which the Kawi won by a hair. Now that Suzuki has their own retro based upon the GSX-S in the Katana, we felt like we had to do it again.
