Suzuki Other description
Nice example of the M-model, the more desirable 1st
year model with the unique instrument cluster and taillight to match. With only
5306 original miles, this bike is in great condition for its age. Everything
works, brakes are good, lights, horn, all electrics work too. I’ve had it for the last 7 years, and did all of the work to
get it to its current state. Like most of these RE-5’s, it was parked a long
time ago once the previous owner abandoned any interest or ability to keep it
on the road. As far as I am aware, I am the 2nd owner of this bike.
I replaced most of the perishable parts that needed attention, radiator hoses,
filler neck hose, rubber bungs & bushings etc… Most of these parts were
replaced/installed around 2008/2009 but this bike hasn’t been ridden a lot over
the last few years, just enough to keep it going:
Other parts/work include:
- New Tires & Tubes
- Rebuilt forks, seals, etc.
- New front brake hoses (all 5 of them) with the correct OEM hoses
- Rebuilt Master Cylinder (does not leak, neither do the calipers)
- New Steering Head Bearings
- New OEM Air Filter
- New OEM Oil Filter
- Rebuilt Instrument Cluster done by Rotary Recycle - clear cover milled out
and new clear lens sealed in, plus new reproduction flip top cover. All gauges
and lights work, even the gear position readout.
- Carb rebuilt by Rotary Recycle back in 2009
- New Seat Cover (not installed) original style.
- I had the tank repainted, and the stripe decal kit from Rotary Recycle. Tank
is in great shape both inside and out.
- I have the complete decal set somewhere but I’m still looking for it at this
point.
- Brand new battery installed just last week.
I have the original mirrors which are in decent shape, I don’t have them
installed as this bike lives in the house and the mirrors just get in the way
when maneuvering through doorways.
For those that know these bikes well, yes, I painted the headlight bucket
black. I did that before I decided to paint the tank, I probably should have
sent the headlight bucket to the painter at the same time, but then again I think
it looks good black rather than matched to the tank.
The only thing missing are the turn signals. I thought it had at least a couple
of them installed when I got the bike but I cannot find them now. But they are
easy to source since the frame/chassis parts are shared with the GT750. Other
known issues: there is a small ding in the rear fender as shown in the
pictures. Petcock is leaking a little, of course due to the crap gas we have.
The little rubber piece is only about $5 and readily available on eBay. Small
hole in the back of the seat, but as mentioned I have a brand new original
style seat cover to go with it. It has sat more than usual over the past year,
so it’s not running the best. It’ll fire right up every time, run ok, but
stumbles when you get on the throttle. It’s all carb, no major issues, just
needs a bit of attention to get it running good. It has been running fine over
the years up until this last year since it sat more than usual.
Also included is the Carb Adjustment Tool (from Rotary Recycle), Shop manual,
and Owner’s manual.
Title is clear and in my name, registered in Oregon but I live in Corona CA
which of course is where the bike is too. Please feel free to ask any
questions, and let me know if you want any more detailed pics, or even if you
want to come and check it out in person.
