Kevin Schwantz Tests Suzuki MotoGP Bike at COTA

Former World Champion and Texas native Kevin Schwantz joined the Suzuki MotoGP team at Circuit of the Americas to test its new racebike. Schwantz, who won the 1993 500cc World Championship with Suzuki, joined test riders Randy de Puniet and Nobuastu Aoki in riding the new prototype which is set to enter the MotoGP championship in 2015. A little while ago, Honda revealed a 130mph tractor lawn mower with an engine from a Superhawk. Along a similar vein is the Isle of Man’s Garage Insanity with a mobility scooter equipped with a 600cc inline-four engine from a Suzuki Katana. According to Garage Insanity, the mobility scooter has a theoretical top speed of 140mph given enough running room, though in practice, it’s only been timed at 102.2 mph over a quarter-mile.

2013 US Motorcycle Sales Data

The Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) reported a modest 1.4% growth in U.S. motorcycle and scooter sales in 2013, with consumers purchasing 465,783 vehicles. The sales data represents numbers from the MIC’s member brands which include BMW, Can-Am, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, the Piaggio Group (which includes Aprilia, Moto Guzzi and Vespa), Victory, Suzuki, Triumph and Yamaha.
