Suzuki GSX-R description

1987 GSXR1100.  Very hard to find this model to restore. This machine runs and rides with a clear Ohio title. Recently had carbs ultrasonically cleaned. Starts right up and runs good. Has a little hesitation off idle and original carbs should be further adjusted or might require rebuild kits. Has K&N filter pods. No known leaks, unusual sounds or smoke. Shifts very well. No grinding or slipping. Plenty of power. Has period correct Vance and Hines exhaust. Sounds very good albeit uglyish. The brakes work and stop as intended. All of the lights work. Horn and all gauges work. Odometer shows 9865 miles but actual miles unknown. All indicator lights work. Turn signals work. Has the original rear turn signals and rear fender as seen. Most were removed and thrown away. The only thing missing there is the license plate light cover. Seat has tears as seen. Tank is clean inside and has no dents. Has polished rims from a 1990 gsxr1100. The tires are decent and have at least a season left. This machine will certainly not win any beauty contests. The plastics are 3 shades and textures of black. Some cracks as seen but most everything is present. The bike has sat around for a few years. Although everything appears to work it would benefit greatly from fluid changes. I have changed the oil and filter and installed a new battery. There are certainly not many of these machines left to restore. Most were raced, wrecked and thrown away. I have seen a few very nice original machines on ebay but not many are available for restoration. The 86-87 GSXR is sure to be a good investment over time. Get it while you can!

Mon, 13 Feb 2012

Crescent Fixi Suzuki racer John Hopkins has broken a bone in his right hand during the first day of testing at Australia’s Phillip Island circuit. The injury was to the same hand Hopkins injured last season that eventually led to the amputation of the tip of his ring finger. Hopkins high-sided entering a corner riding a 2011-spec Suzuki GSX-R1000 (the 2012 superbike was not yet ready).

Get down on your knees and play

This remarkable shot of Eddie Lawson is taken by Rich Chenet. It was August 1980 and Lawson was undergoing a titanic scrap for the AMA title with Wes Cooley and Freddie Spencer here at Pocono Raceway in Philladelphia. The circuit is known as the 'Tricky Triangle' amongst the NASCAR drivers but the superbikes used a mix of infield and sections of the banked circuit.
