Land Speed Record Holder Bill Warner Dies Chasing 300 MPH Record

Land speed motorcycle racer Bill Warner succumbed to injuries suffered in a 285 mph crash at Loring Air Force Base in Maine. The 44-year-old from Wimauma, Fla., reportedly lost control of his modified turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa while attempting to reach a speed of 300 mph. Warner reportedly began veering to his right during one high-speed run on the base’s runway after clocking 285 mph.

Marco Melandri earned BMW its second ever World Superbike victory to move into second place in the championship standings behind Max Biaggi in the series’ only stop in the United States. Melandri won a red-flagged Race Two at Utah’s Miller Motorsports Park after finishing second to defending WSBK Champion Carlos Checa in Race One to give him 142.5 points on the season, tied with Kawasaki‘s Tom Sykes but behind Aprilia‘s Biaggi who leads the way with 160.5 points. FIM Updates Superbike Racing Homologation Lists for 2013

The International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) has released an updated list of motorcycles homologated for the 2013 Superbike, Supersport, and Superstock racing season. Notable additions include the new BMW S1000RR HP4, the MV Agusta F3 and the Superbike-spec Ducati 1199 Panigale R. To qualify a production-based racebike for FIM homologations, manufacturers have to meet certain production thresholds.
