Ducati TT1 Replica - 88HP, Track Ready (1986)
With 88 rear wheel horsepower in a sub-300lb package, this example is arguably the quickest and best handling old-school TT1 in North America. I built this TT1 using period components as a relatively faithful replica of the TT1s that ran in the AMA BOTT GP class back in the day. The only deviation being the modern (90s) calipers and pumps, ignition coils and the non standard crankcase breather box in the seat. However, it differs from most TT1 replicas in that it was built to be a fast and reliable track bike. Over the years I’ve found that the only TT1 frame that seems to work well with modern 17” wheels & slicks is the final series Verlicchi large diameter, thin wall. Back in the day, Reno Leoni had his brother-in-law (DM Frames) make a copy of the Verlicchi and DM has since modified the jig to allow for the use of a big block motor. The DM version was checked digitally last year against the Verlicchi and they are geometrically identical, however the DM is 12mm longer between the upper cross brace and the steering head. I countered this somewhat with the offset on my triple clamps, but the small difference in trail gives the DM a bit more stability with a very small decrease in agility. The specs are: CHASSIS DM TT1 Frame Marvic 3-spoke magnesium wheels with floating 280mm Brembo rotors front and 260mm rear Brembo P3034 calipers with authentic Brembo racing caliper adapters Brembo 996 series pumps Authentic TT1 Brembo rear master Marzocchi M1R forks substantially modified by Lindeman engineering back in the day (they work like no M1R I’ve ever experienced) Authentic TT1 Marzocchi 195mm triple clamps TZ replica throttle Scitsu electronic tachometer Ducati early 851 clip-ons (Verlicchi) Authentic NCR electrics plate Bosch ignition (rewired pick-ups) with Dyna 3 ohm coils Custom-built Stadium shock (rebound plus Hi & Lo speed compression adjustment) Ducati 750 F1 aluminum swing arm Leoncinni TT1 Replica floating rear brake caliper mount Leoncinni TT1 Replica rear sets Old Racing Spares endurance tank and TT1 seat with custom, integrated breather box Bimota DB1R fender & mount Romanelli TT1 fairing loudbike open NCR replica exhaust loudbike 85db Weber exhaust ENGINE: 750 Sport-based bottom end built by Gary Palmer 800SS rods Lightened clutch basket, clutch housing, primaries and flywheel JPrecision heads with new valves, guides & seats and NCR #7 cams with STM adjustable pulleys Modified F1B pistons (12.5:1 compression) Mikuni TM Pro-series 41mm flat slides Mikuni vacuum fuel pump Modified Old Racing Spares cam end covers Oil cooler with Starlite hoses, Earls fittings and top-end lubrication via cam end cover feed Magnesium rocker covers Dyno-tuned to 88hp, 56ftlbs torque The whole kit is held together with over $900 in titanium and aluminum fasteners. Every bearing and seal in the motor and on the machine is new. The bike is a highly-developed example of an old-school TT1 – works brilliantly on the track and handles better than any TT1 I’ve ridden. The bike and motor were built with care and a high level of attention to detail over an 18 month period. It was broken in correctly on the dyno and then saw six horsepower/tuning pulls and roughly 4.5 hours of track time. I’ve run the bike at Calabogie and Mosport – and came away delighted with the performance and handling on both occasions. The fiberglass fairing is a period piece, so there are some minor surface cracks already starting to show. As well, there is some minor paint blistering (two quarter sized areas) from heat off the 95bd exhaust. 2024 Suzuki GSX-8R Review First Ride
Tue, 14 May 2024A middleweight sporty-bike without the backache Photos: Kevin Wing As I write this, in the year 2024, its dawned on me that theres a whole generation of adults that have little to no memory of September 11, 2001. Some werent even alive yet, and those who were were too young to remember. One of, if not the, defining moment for my generation is just a page in a history book for todays young adults, just as December 7, 1941 was for me.
2024 Suzuki GSX-S1000GX+ Review First Ride
Fri, 22 Dec 2023A tech-laden, long-legged addition to the K5 family Photography by: Ula Serra, Amylee Photography Suzuki has produced more than 180,000 of its K5 999 cc Inline Four cylinder engine in the last 18 years, and now were seeing that engine tasked with powering a tall sport touring bike that Suzuki calls the supreme sport crossover," sitting between the sport-touring GSX-S1000GT that the GX is heavily based on, and adventure tourers like that of Suzukis V-Strom line. Leggy sport tourers, or crossovers, arent exactly a new thing, and since bikes like the Kawasaki Versys, Yamaha Tracer 9 GT, and BMW S 1000 XR exist, there is already some healthy competition for Hamamatsu to contend with. Suzuki tells us this is its most technologically advanced motorcycle yet, making the GSX-S1000GX a sort of flagship product for the brand.

2023 Suzuki V-Strom 800DE - Video Review
Fri, 24 Mar 2023Nobody reads anymore anyway The Dunlop tires worked well on pavement and hard packed trails, but in the looser terrain, a knobby tire wouldve been a better option. Videos by Suzuki, Edited by Ray Gauger Youve read the review (maybe), now watch the video! Skirting through beautiful twisty bits of tarmac intertwined with rocky fire roads, the Suzuki V-Strom 800DEs excellent new Parallel Twin engine is a peach. On road, the Twin powers out of corners with all of the punch expected of a 776cc 270-degree crank-driven Twin.

Thu, 02 Mar 2023Suzuki hits a sweet spot in the middleweight adventure scene Flying over the second largest island in the Mediterranean gives a view of rocky coastlines, lush greenery, small villages, and surprisingly stout topography with mountains stretching more than 6,000 ft. into the sky. Idyllic yet rugged, the isle of Sardinia boasts addictively serpentine asphalt and endlessly challenging off-road terrain.
2023 Suzuki V-Strom 800DE/V-Strom 800DE Adventure First Look
Tue, 08 Nov 2022No longer with a V-Twin, but the Strom heritage is still strong The Suzuki V-Strom line is a storied one that most riders are quite familiar with, but today in Milan, Suzuki opened the next chapter: the 2023 Suzuki V-Strom 800DE. While the entire bike is worthy of attention, the showstopper for the new Storms is the 766cc parallel-Twin engine. The V-Twin that gives the Strom part of its name has been assigned to the history books.

Tue, 08 Nov 2022Suzuki's all-new platform is a sign of things to come. At long last, the spiritual successor to Suzukis wildly popular SV650 (but not the actual successor, the SV is still staying in the Suzuki lineup) is finally here. Say hello to the GSX-8S, a motorcycle Suzuki says was engineered from the ground up as an innovative path for future Suzuki sportbikes While we all process what that means for Suzukis future, lets delve into the present day and take a closer look at Suzukis new middleweight naked bike.
Showdown: Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX Vs Suzuki GSX-S1000GT+
Fri, 04 Nov 2022A clash between two sport-touring heavyweights Credit: Photos by Evans Brasfield It seems like all the splash lately has been about the ADV category and all the wonderful things they can do and destinations they can reach. Were not going to deny adventure bikes their time in the sun, either. Theyre definitely fun and capable bikes worthy of all the bandwagoning.
Church of MO: 2012 Suzuki DR-Z400S Review
Sun, 09 Oct 2022And speaking of Japanese motorcycles with looooong shelf lives, how about the DR-Z400S? Suzuki sold the first one in 2000 as a serious enduro machine you could ride around on the street, too. And theyll sell you one today, complete with 36mm Mikuni carburetor, for just $7,099 which is $1750 more than 22 years ago.
2023 Suzuki V-Strom 1050 and V-Strom 1050DE First Look
Tue, 06 Sep 2022V-Strom 1050XT gets replaced by a more capable off-road variant Suzuki announced updates for the V-Strom 1050, as well as a new off-road oriented version for 2023. The new 2023 Suzuki V-Strom 1050DE replaces the 1050XT model, and adds new features to make it a more capable off-road machine such as a 21-inch front wheel, longer-stroke suspension, and a larger aluminum bash plate. Both models remain powered by a 1037cc V-Twin engine, but for 2023, Suzuki introduced new hollow sodium-filled exhaust valves, claiming reduced temperature in the combustion chamber, and thus improved efficiency and durability.
