1967 GILERA 124 5V
2950 Original Miles-Runs and Drives Great

Gilera is one of the oldest Italian motorcycle companies, founded in 1909. The 124 was one of their most popular models, and was raced with great success over the years. The model here is a 1967 with the factory 5 speed transmission. Popularized by Sears, who rebadged and "re-handlebared" them into the American style, they proved to be very good quality, and a reliable sporting bike. This one has the far more desirable, CORRECT handlebars that the motorcycle was designed with.

This bike shows 2950 miles and is believed to be original. The cosmetics suffered from the bike being stored outside for a period of time. The tank appears to have been resprayed poorly in black, but the rest of the bike is original sun baked paint. There is still some evidence of the original stickers on the tool boxes. It has lived its whole life in California and still bears its original black and yellow 1967 license plate. The mechanical condition is EXCELLENT. It starts easily and runs beautifully. It does not smoke. It shifts and stops like a new bike. The clutch and gearbox are nice and smooth. The tires are the original Pirellis, an MT53 in the rear and an MT76 up front. They still have decent tread, but obviously will need to be replaced before any miles are put on the bike. Further evidence of the low miles is in the rubbers. The foot peg, starter, gearshift, and handlebar rubbers are all original and show little if any wear. All of the wiring is mint original. It needs a battery for lights, etc. but runs fine without one.

The chrome on the bike is decent and shiny with the exception of the rims. They have lots of surface rust. All of the sheet metal (fenders, tool boxes, and tank) is in good shape and the bike does not appear to have ever been laid down. The original Silentium muffler has a rust hole in the bottom as shown. The bike sounds loud but good!

This is a SUPER fun bike, and has a pretty cool patina. It is very light, just over 200 lbs and is quite fast for its displacement. It literally has everything a period Ducati has-except the name and price. This is a wonderful opportunity to score an underrated Italian classic with great investment potential.
