Other G80 description
For sale my 1962 Matchless G80 English Touring motorcycle 500cc
I purchased this cycle from a friend about 10 yrs ago. At the time it had sat for quite a while. Original color was Black which is what most of them were. I totally refurbished this bike from top to bottom, it is not a concours correct restoration, not a show bike or trailer queen. I have been refurbishing cycles for about 12 yrs and have sold many on ebay, shipped worldwide. This bike was done so it could be ridden and enjoyed. I do this as a hobby and not for profit. I have to many motorcycles and I am thinning the herd. I have refurbished Triumph's, BSA's, a Norton Commando, BMW's, a Moto Guzzi, Honda 750's and other Japanese bikes. I will be honest in describing what has been done and what has been replaced on this bike. This model is quite rare to have in the US. Most of the Matchless models imported into the US were the sport versions with chrome or stainless steel fenders, smaller gas tanks and upswept mufflers. The G80 you see is the old style English Touring model many times used with a sidecar attached. It has the sidecar lugs on the frame. It has the full painted fenders and large touring gas tank. There are only about a dozen G80 models listed in the Matchless Owners Club Registry in the US. The sport and racing models were designated G80C, G80S, and G80CS this is not one of those. I rebuilt the concentric Amal Carb that was on it when I bought it. Originally it would have had an Amal Monobloc. I rebuilt the front forks and wheels have all new bearings and seals. The cylinder head was shipped to Ad Coppens in Conneticut and he rebuilt the head with all new correct parts. Ad is one of the premier Matchless mechanics and restorers in the US, many hard to find parts were also sourced from him. Many parts were Rechromed by Custom Plating Specialist in Brillion, WI Dusty's Powdercoating in Superior, WI powdercoated the front and rear frame assemblies, center and side stands, fork tube covers, chainguard, steering top and bottom triple trees, fender stays and brackets, footrest arms, engine brackets, headlite and handlebar brackets in Satin Black. New parts on the bike are: handlebar and grips, ammeter, front peg and kicker rubbers, front and rear hub seals and bearings, dipper/horn switch, tire pump, Ewarts petcocks, speedo drive and cable, kick start lever, front and rear brakes shoes, brake rod, frame cover, clutch rubbers, rear shock absorbers, fork tube caps and nuts, brake and clutch levers, headlite rim, decompression lever, misc nuts and bolts and anything and everything. Complete engine gaskets and seals and all other gaskets, seals and orings for the bike. Throttle and clutch cables. New Excel red lettered wheels and stainless steel spokes and nipples from Buchanan Spoke and Wheel. It has a new wiring harness that I made with the correct color coded wires. The motorcycle runs great, it starts on 1 or 2 kicks after you tickle the carb. You do not need to decompress the motor to start the bike. It runs strong and clean. It does leak oil from the primary cover like all Matchless motorcycles did. The only problem with it is the speedometer does not work properly and I don't know why. The speedo was rebuilt, has a new speedo cable and rear drive. I will leave that for the new owner to sort out. I have been driving it the was it is. Even though the speedo reads 228 miles it actually has 500 to 600 on it since I refurbished the bike. I had the speedo cable disconnected for a bit. My name is Jeff and I have nothing to hide and have tried to disclose all. Please feel free to call with any questions 218-393-7105. I am totally above board on this. I am not a scammer and do not wish to deal with anyone that is. I unfortunately have dealt with scammers before. I will work with legitimate shippers only after the motorcycles is completely paid for in full. I require a small deposit with paypal at the time of sale. Full payment must be in cash or wire transfer to my local bank. No checks or Money orders accepted. This Motorcycle is selling with No Warranty or none implied. Thanks you for looking. Good luck |
