Norton Commando description
If you have zero feedback, a low number of
feedback, or no recent activity on ebay you must contact me prior to
bidding. Failure to do so will result in your bid being cancelled. I am
sorry to require this, but there are a lot of fake bidders and time
wasters out there. It takes time and money to list an item and I want
all bidders to be legitimate. Payment is due within 5 days of the
auctions end, no exceptions. No Paypal for full purchase. Bike must be picked up within 3 weeks of
auctions end or storage fees will apply.
First off, the motor does not match the frame. The trans and frame match. The motor is from a 1971. It has been in there a long time. I figure the original motor went down and a replacement was cheaper than a rebuild at the time.
That being said, its still a great bike and runs like a bat out of hell. This is the bike for the guy that wants to race or really ride a Norton. The bike was not running when I purchased it. I drained and replaced all the fluids. Pulled both carbs and rebuilt/cleaned them. Replaced both of the petcocks. Installed new coils and a brand new Pazon electronic ignition. Two kicks later, she was alive again! Once I rode it around the block and pissed the neighbors off, I set out to try to make it stop. The rear wheel was pulled and treated to new brakes shoes , new tube, and a new K81 dunlop. The front was already changed to the later style disk. So I rebuilt the caliper with new seals, stainless pistons, and new pads. The front mastercylinder had to be sourced and it recieved all new seals. I also replaced both lines going to the caliper. It stops now, not like a modern bike, but stops. A common upgrade is to resleeve the master cylinder to increase the brake funtion. The front tire is a new K81 as well. It fits nicely under the dunstall style fender. The head pipes have been changed to the later style. And the mufflers are proper English Dunstalls. It sounds like a Norton should. I have a video lower in the ad and you can hear it. It does not do it justice on hearing it in person.
The overall condition of the bike is unrestored. The metalflake in the tank shines great. The red over it is faded as you can see. The pinstripe of course is not factory. You dont see many in this color at all. There are nicks and scratches here and there. The tank is solid with no leaks. As far as I know it has never had Ethanol fuel in it. I myself run non-ethanol in all my old bikes. The bike does need a little tinkering here and there to completely dial it in. The clutch needs some tuning to get it right. It works fine, but you can tell its not perfect. The chrome is pitted on the wheels but presentable. The mufflers do have some blemishes. The center stand seems solid except for the small side wire. The tab is there for the side stand if you can find one. The chrome on the headlight is pitted. I have an alloy clutch lever that will be installed before the bike sells. The seat cover is not original but in good shape. The bike starts and runs good. It does puff a little smoke on start up , but not enough to warrant a repair. I have too many projects and need to move a few or I wouldnt be selling it. Its a blast to ride and really moves.
The cylinder head does have a chipped fin and two holes drilled in it to tie off the exhaust collars. The bike does drip a bit. I will include a 850 gasket kit if youre inclined to try to seal up some of the drips. All in all its a good bike that can be restored or just ride the crap out of it. The lights and gauges all work like they should. The horn even works. The wiring is mostly original and has not been cut up. The key bracket is gone as its running a k&n filter. Some kind of bracket should be easy to make.
I have tried to take plenty of pictures to show all aspects of the bike. I dont want there to be any surprises. This is a 45 year old bike , so dont expect a new one when it arrives. It is british, it will take some tinkering to keep it going. Im sure I have forgotten something , so please ask all questions before bidding. The bike does have a clear Tn title. The bike is being sold as is, where is with no warranty.
Shipping is the buyers responsibility, but I will work with the shipper of your choice in any way possible. Payment due by bank wire, cash in person, or cashiers check. Full payment due within 5 days and please contact me within 12 hours of winning bid to make arrangements for payment. All funds must clear my bank prior to bike or title being released. The bike must be picked up within 3 weeks of auctions end or a storage fee may apply. Please have an idea of the shipping cost and who youre going to use before you bid if you plan on having the bike shipped. $500 non refundable deposit due via paypal within 24 hours of auctions end. I can deliver to the Barber Vintage Festival on October 9 or 10th for $150.
I have taken photos in the sun and in the shade. The silver washes out in pictures when in the sun.
