KTM Announces Record Sales of 123,859 Motorcycles in 2013

KTM announced a 15.6% increase in motorcycles sales in 2013, thanks in large part to expansion into Asian and South American markets. The Austrian manufacturer sold 123,859 motorcycles in 2013, compared to the previous annual sales record of 107,142 motorcycles set in 2012. Increased sales translated to revenues of €716.3 million (US$971.0 million) in 2013, a new record shattering the previous record of €612.0 million set the previous year by 17.0%.

By most accounts, Ryan Dungey and KTM had an excellent year in 2012. Reunited with his long-time mentor and Red Bull KTM Team Manager Roger de Coster, Dungey deliver KTM its first ever AMA Supercross main eventwin, he also won KTM its first AMA Motocross title. The only real disappointment was Dungey breaking his collarbone during the Supercross season, forcing him out of several rounds.

It had been quite a while since I last rode a multi-cylinder KTM on a racetrack – all the way back to 2011 and the Red Bull-sponsored factory RC8R 1200cc V-twin on which Martin Bauer was victorious in that year’s IDM German Superbike Championship, with teammate Stefan Nebel third.
