Reading the rules and filling out the form are simple first steps in applying for the 2013 Red Bull Rookies Cup. If chosen, Rookies enter the world of Grand Prix racing, carrying with them their helmet, skill, determination and a capacity for hard work. Aspiring racers born between January 1st, 1996 and March 31st, 2000 with high performance motorcycle experience are eligible.

Behind the scenes on a photoshoot

If you read motorcycle magazines - and even road tests on polished websites like this one (!) - you'll be used to seeing pictures of bike journos hamming it up for the camera. Yes they look slick as they kiss another apex, crest another rise with the front wheel pawing the air (those clichés are TM BIKE magazine by the way). But you don't often get to see anything 'behind the scenes'.

KTM RC8R: The first month

First impressions are everything so the gearbox niggles on the first RC8s meant I didn’t become an instant fan. There was never a problem for normal road riding but when the pace was increased on track days false neutrals were found and gears were missed. Ironically I might have been able to help here as KTM signed me up for pre-production shakedown testing before I got sidelined with appendicitis.
