2014 KTM 1290 Super Duke R Revealed

Almost a year after it was revealed in prototype form, KTM has released final specifications and photographs of the all-new 1290 Super Duke R production model. Until now, KTM had been coy about the specs for its large-displacement naked bike, but we can now see what makes the Austrian manufacturer nickname the new Super Duke R as “the Beast”. In typical KTM style, the 1290 in the bike’s name provides only a ballpark estimate of the actual engine displacement.

EICMA 2013: 2014 KTM RC390, RC200 and RC125 Officially Revealed

Full details about the new RC390 leaked last month, but today at the 2013 EICMA show, KTM officially revealed details about the fully-faired sportbike along with its smaller siblings the RC200 and RC125. The engines are the same as on the naked models, with the same performance figures.

In retrospect, that thought kind of made sense given the fact that the mill tucked beneath the 1290’s new tank design is an iteration of the Super Duke’s 1301cc V-Twin – the naked bike dubbed by KTM marketing folks as “the beast.” And beastly it is. Even in larger ADV garb coming in at 542 pounds dripping wet, the SA-R is still an absolute ripper of a motorcycle that is fully capable of serially killing rear tires.
