KTM Holiday Party and Track Day
Mon, 14 Dec 2009It takes a gambler to win and the Austrian motorcycle maker KTM took that gamble on the weather last Friday while throwing a holiday party slash track day at its local Pala Raceway. Known locally for its Indian casino, Pala, California and its motocross raceway was the site of KTM’s Christmas gift to owners and fans. Warding off the falling rain for most of the day, KTM owners had free reign of Pala Raceway’s 200-plus acres, DJ entertainment, product raffles, a look at Team Peterson’s hill climbing team bikes and photos with Santa for the kids and Jager girls for the adult children.

The world’s first production electric superbike, the Mavizen TTX02, was unveiled on Tuesday. The bike has been nicknamed a ‘laptop on wheels’ and is being produced by TTXGP (Time Trial Xtreme Grand Prix) founder Azhar Hussain.

Mon, 15 Dec 2008In India, Bajaj Auto is a major player in two and three-wheeled vehicles. They originally purchased a 14.5 percent stake in KTM last year, which was increased to 20.9 percent earlier this year and has now officially reached 25 percent. Off-Road Motorcycle and Free-Ride Bicycle Compared
Thu, 11 Dec 2008What if anything do bicycles and motorcycles have in common? Besides the whole two-wheel thing, it isn’t outright apparent that these two “handle-barred beasts” share more than ancient ancestry. Modern Off-road motorcycle and Free-ride bicycle designs side-by-side illustrate how much technology the two have in common.
POW! 2008 KTM RC8 1190 ‘the orange torpedo’
Wed, 10 Dec 2008Red, Blue, Green & Black – these are motorcycle colors, right? Well, orange definitely needs to be considered a motorcycle color too. Full discretion first, I’ve a thing for KTM bikes.
Volkswagen Motorcycle?
Tue, 18 Nov 2008Volkswagen has been teasing Birkenstock wearing Grateful Dead fans for years with futuristic yet retro-inspired concepts of their famed Micro-bus. Discussion and speculation have been passed around bongs like bags of Doritos for years about whether or not the cherished hippie mover will ever be resurrected. Will they build it?
KTM Turns up the Heat in Milan
Thu, 06 Nov 2008After attending a large consumer show of any kind, be it car, RV, boat or motorcycle, it often feels like the entire event was a blur. For that reason, I thought I would highlight some of the more noteworthy models shown at the EICMA show in Milan, starting with KTM. KTM is getting ready to race next year with the RC8 R, a superbike, which they unveiled in Milan this week.
EICMA 2008: First Impressions
Mon, 03 Nov 2008I have had a little walk around checking out the preparations for the show. I haven’t seen anything that I haven’t already seen or heard about previously, but here’s a selection from three of the halls. Yamaha are the only manufacturer to use an industrial crane to place some of its bikes up on high rise stands.
OEMs Plug into Electric Bikes
Sat, 01 Nov 2008KTM introduced its prototype electric motorcycle earlier this week, and electric bike manufacturer Zero Motorcycles almost immediately responded by opening sales on its 2009 Zero X dirt bike (look for our review of the 2008 model next week!). But these two companies aren’t the only ones exploring the possibilities of electric-powered motorcycles. In September, Japan’s largest industrial information journal Nikkei Business Daily reported that both Honda and Yamaha have set target dates for launching their own electric-powered motorcycles.
