2013 KTM 450 XC-F, NO freight or set up!2013 KTM 450 XC-FTHE BENCHMARKThe brand new 2013 KTM 450 XC-F features a completely new, significantly lighter engine, featuring groundbreaking injection technology that guarantees brutal yet controllable power. Packed into a chassis, which has been improved massively in terms of bodywork, frame and suspension, the 2013 KTM 450 XC-F sets a new benchmark among the 450 four-strokes in terms of performance and maneuverability with its easy handling.FeaturesSwingarmThe cast aluminium swingarm has been developed with state-of-the-art calculation and simulation software and constructed, in terms of design and wall thickness, for minimum weight with optimum stiffness and precisely defined flexibility. For the 2013 model year, our engineers have revised the chainguide for the benefit of higher functional reliability, while simultaneously reducing the weight.Suspension/DampingFor 2013, all XC models are fitted with a newly developed 48mm 4CS Closed Cartridge fork featuring the patented 4-Chamber-System. The sophisticated design provides very constant and sensitive damping characteristics and an adjustable end progression. The new hand click adjuster system is now accessible on top of the fork, rebound on the right hand side, compression on the left. The fork is fitted with improved seal rings made by SKF and high performance fork oil (SAE 4). Compared to the predecessor, the new 4CS fork is lighter, easier to maintain and has been completely valved to match the shock for XC racing.Triple clampsThe lower triple clamp has been modified for optimum attachment of the new front fender. Thanks to its new contour and attachment with two bolts from the front and two from below, the new fender boasts significantly higher stability.Exhaust systemThe new 350 & 450 have an optimized silencer that achieves outstanding performance at low noise levels. In addition, hydro-formed sections and an additional resonator (Header Resonator System,HRS) provide the 250 and 350 models with extra torque while reducing their noise emissions.

Pull open any manufacturer’s gifts and accessories catalog and you’ll usually find the same kind of officially-branded items like key chains, beer mugs and iPhone cases. Most manufacturers offer similar items, with only the colors and logos to differentiate them. Once in a while however, manufacturers offer something that truly stands out.

Buying countless tatty bikes. And that Marquez fella

Fri, 10 May 2013

A South African friend of mine called Trevor Binder told me last weekend I’m quite obviously in the advanced stages of a terrible disease. He recognises the affliction because he admits to suffering from the same condition for many years and so far hasn’t found a cure.  He says he can’t stop collecting bikes and while I didn’t think I had a problem, last weekend he pointed out I should be careful as I’m starting to acquire bikes at an alarming rate. I wasn’t really worried about spending a modest amount of cash an old KTM 125 race bike, a 350 LC and a Fizzy over the past six months but Trevor says I’m on a slippery slope.  He says it always starts with bikes that have some sentimental value but then swiftly moves on to buying any old tat.  Trevor is a wealthy man with dozens of nice bikes in his collection but more recently has been on Gumtree bidding for £150 Solex front wheel drive step - thrus, and doesn’t know why.  Closer to home, James Whitham has recently confirmed he may also have these symptoms and is actively seeking therapy.  I’ll be monitoring the situation from now on but in the meantime if anyone hears of a reasonably priced Raleigh Wisp for sale please let me know.
