KTM Teases New 1290 Naked Prototype Ahead of EICMA – Is This the New Super Duke?

KTM has released pictures of a new 1290cc naked prototype, the so-called “Beast” whose engine roar KTM revealed earlier in the week. To be officially unveiled next week at the 2012 EICMA show, the new model is still unnamed, though judging by the brief glimpses of its styling and the KTM North American dealer meeting slide that leaked earlier this year, we’re pretty sure this new prototype will eventually become the KTM 1290 Super Duke. Don’t look now, but James Stewart is the hottest rider in the AMA Supercross Championship. The Yoshimura Suzuki rider won his third consecutive race and series-leading fifth victory of the season. But with Kawasaki‘s Ryan Villopoto holding a comfortable lead with four rounds remaining, Stewart’s hot streak may be too little too late.

KTM Presents 250cc Moto3 Engine

KTM revealed its new 250cc four-stroke engine that will be used in the Moto3 World Championship which is set to replace the 125cc class in 2012. The single cylinder engine is all new and not a repurposed motor from KTM‘s 250cc offroad engine portfolio and is said to weigh just 55 pounds. Official specs were not released, but Moto3 regulations dictate a maximum bore of 81mm, a rev limit of 14,000rpm.
