NO RESERVE!! These don't show up often but when they do, don't hesitate!! This is the legendary Kawasaki triple. A 500cc two stroke machine that was just too fast for most people to handle and as a result, many lost their lives due to the stunning acceleration that caused many to nickname them "widowmakers" During the early 70's these were THE fastest production street bikes in the world and this low mileage example is quite frightening when it hits the powerband at about 6 & a 1/2 thousand rpms. This machine is currently registered/licensed and insured. I will include the personalized South Dakota motorcycle license plate that reads: MACH 1
This bike comes with the ORIGINAL owners manual that factory specs boast a 12.4 standing start quarter mile and 59 horsepower stock.
GET THIS: 6 thousand ORIGINAL miles, starts and idles on the first kick and crackles beautifully at the stoplight, has ORIGINAL tires, chain and sprockets and oil injector intact and functioning as it should. I can't for the life of me understand why guys disconnected these oil pumps and ran pre-mix when the oil injector insures optimum delivery under all conditions. The gas tank appears to have been relined and shows ZERO rust inside!!
Headlight/high beam, tailight/brakelight, horn & turn signals operate as they should but at times the right blinkers don't flash. The charging system works as it should and a pigtail battery cable has been added. The seat is nice with no holes and the seat pan is in great condition as well.
I bought this bike pretty much as-is and it came with Bill Wirges racing expansion chambers (who boasted a 20% horsepower increase) and 3 aftermarket individual air cleaners that appear to be K&N style. I DO NOT have original airbox and exhausts. I changed the leaky petcock to an aftermarket one that has an "off" position as the factory one did not but I have retained the original petcock and will include it in this auction. I have replaced the leaking fuel lines with transparent lines and added individual transparent inline fuel filters.
I bought this bike last April and brought it here to South Dakota where I could ride it to the world famous Sturgis biker rally and as anticipated, mine was THE only triple there out of maybe 300 thousand bikers and I was treated as a celebrity everytime I stopped and was applauded and cheered when I didn't stop. The old timers respect these old machines and EVERYBODY turns and looks when they hear it coming!! It sounds like a herd of chainsaws flying overhead and smells delightfully like one too.
Keep in mind that this bike is FORTY YEARS OLD and is not a museum piece but can still be ridden daily and will need some T.L.C. as follows: Whoever owned this bike prior to me had installed the expansion chambers and air cleaners w/o compensating the jetting. You just can't do that!! And so the low end can be a little sluggish outta the hole but when the powerband kicks in at 6 1/2 thousand rpms, she will scream past anything while the front end gets light and wants to get air. She still does what she was designed to and with a sound that only adds to the adrenaline rush. As perviously mentioned, the right turn signals don't always flash and the bike has been layed down lightly on it's right side showing scratches on the oil pump cover but only if one looks for it, it is not readily visible and is still a great looking bike for it's age. I have replaced the tachometer cable with a nos (new old stock) cable but the speedo needs calibrated or a new cable? Odometer and trip meter function as they should and reflect the original miles. The exhaust gaskets drizzle some at the header pipes and will need to be tightened or preferably replaced. The bottom sides of the gas tank show light surface rust under the graphics.
Finally...I realize that the logistics of buying a motorcycle, boat or car can be challenging and I am willing to hold this bike in my garage, covered and plugged into a battery tender for up to 90 days. REALLY!! I will not accept paypal due to the high fees that a seller absorbs but will take a personal check and release the bike and/or title ten days after payment clears. I will accept paypal ONLY with buy it now!! I cannot or will not ship this bike or crate it but I will transport it no more than 50 miles from where this triple currently resides in Rapid City, South Dakota. I reserve the right to end this auction early for local sale. Do not bid if you cannot pay!! Ask questions before you bid should you have any. Please REMEMBER that this bike is 40 years old and is not a showroom bike just off the sales floor so have realistic expectations. Okay?? I can assure you this bike will give you many more years of pleasure and the stigma attached with owning a race ready street maching of a long gone era. This one lives on and runs strong!!

Lascorz smiling in first post-crash photo
Mon, 02 Jul 2012Nearly three months on since Joan Lascorz's accident in the post-race test at Imola, the first image has appeared showing the Spaniard in good spirits whilst he undergoes rehabilitation. The terrible crash left the 27-year-old factory Kawasaki rider with a fracture to his C6 vertebrae, and fears that it would leave him quadriplegic. Fortunately, as shown in the picture with his raised arm, Lascorz has recovered full sensitivity in his upper limbs.
2011 ZX-10R onboard lap.. worked out nice
Thu, 16 Dec 2010I've been playing around with video cameras in the office here for a good year with varying degress of success. The GoPro we use is great - when it's behaving. But I've had too many sessions where it doesn't like the SD card I fed it, the batteries die as you're leaving pit lane or you record a perfect lap, but with the camera pointing at the sky, or the tank.
