Kawasaki ZZR1400 launch preview

Kawasaki are launching the 2012 ZZR1400 at the high-speed Nardo test circuit in Italy. Visordown's Editor, Ben Cope is on hand to sample the new 197bhp hypersports tourer and Suzuki Hayabusa rival at speeds nearing 200mph. The transforming Kawasaki J Concept was one of the highlights of the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, thanks to its futuristic styling that was like a cross between a Tron Lightcycle and the Batpod from Christopher Nolan‘s Batman trilogy. The electric three-wheeler is unlikely to enter full production, but it is nice to see some outrageous concept models again. The J Concept was primarily produced to showcase Kawasaki‘s GIGACELL high-capacity nickel-metal hydride battery technology, but the most dramatic feature is the concept’s ability to transform.

WSBK: 2012 Phillip Island Results – Video

Max Biaggi won the opening race to the 2012 World Superbike Championship while defending champion Carlos Checa came back from a high-speed crash in the first race to win the second at Australia’s Phillip Island circuit. Reigning champion Checa of Althea Ducati had a stunning high-side crash while leading on the sixth lap of Race One. The WSBK paddock was already in shock with the death of 17-year-old Oscar McIntyre in the Superstock 600 race the day before but thankfully Checa was not seriously injured.
