Honda Team HRC To Compete In 2014 Dakar Rally

Today Honda announced that through its official racing arm, Team HRC, the company will be tackling the 2014 Dakar Rally, one of the most grueling off-road races in the world. The race starts on January 5 and lasts until January 18. Five riders—Helder Rodrigues (Portugal), Sam Sunderland (United Kingdom), Javier Pizzolito (Argentina), Joan Barreda (Spain), and Paulo Goncalves (Portugal)—will ride the CRF450 Rally, a rally-racing bike specially developed for the 2014 Dakar.

There are no plans yet to bring either model to the U.S., but Honda is bringing its new NC700S and NC700X models to Canada for the summer of 2012. American Honda will however, likely be keeping a close eye on how the new models do with its northern neighbor (or perhaps “neighbour”) before deciding whether to import the NC700 models stateside. Retro-Styled Dual Sport Revealed in Honda Patent Application

A newly-published patent application reveals Honda is working on a retro-styled dual sport. The application, filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, reveals a streetbike with round headlight and mirrors but with hand guards, wire spokes and a high-rising exhaust suggesting some off-road capability.
