Honda Other description
K1 Honda SL350, year 1970.
Purchased this about 2 years ago as a very rough bike. It is now not a show piece but a nice running rider with many new parts. It needs some items to be a complete restoration which I will try and list out. The title is in my name and ready to be transferred. I do not know the history on this bike other than the immediate owner drove it around the yard some. I listed the mileage as 6410 as that is what the speedometer shows but I can not verify that. The bike runs and shifts very well. I am not a professional restorer but have put a lot of effort into this bike. Thought this would be a keeper for a long time but I enjoy working on them and it is time for another project. Here is a list of everything which has been done over the last 2 years. Motor was sent to "Spikes Vintage Motorcycle" in Canton for inspection and refurbishment. Cylinder bore was found to be in spec so light hone was done with new piston rings. Camshaft was found to be out of spec but a NOS item could not be located so Cam was reground. Shifter fork was worn so NOS item was installed. All new gaskets were sourced. Motor runs very well and shifts well. All new cables, brake, accelerator, clutch, tach and speedometer were installed. Tank was sealed by local radiator shop. Reproduction fuel pet cocky installed with NOS gas cap. NOS headlight bezel was installed and rear license plate bracket was sent out to be rechromed. Frame and swing arm were blasted and powder coated. Wiring harness was in pretty good shape but sections needed to be rewrapped. All electrics and lights work but rear brake light switch was not installed. I still have it and will include with the sale. Candy Ruby Red was used from VMR paint. Note, the decals on the tank are painted on not the decals and are clear coated over. Seat was reupholstered but is missing the Honda emblem on the back. New Lithium battery was used. New reproduction handle bar, grips and throttle barrel were installed. The old handlebar was not worth saving. Brakes were all taken apart, inspected and cleaned. Here are the things which need attention to be a true restoration in my opinion: The forks are not pitted but need to be polished The gauges are very rough and look better in the picture than they are. Rims are solid and not rusted but very dull and spokes are a little rusted. I could not find the proper seat lock so a piece was made to hold the seat from moving when down but it does not lock. The rear of the tank is not bolted down and I could not figure out what was supposed to be there. The seat holds it in place when down and the rubber piece is still there but just not sure what other piece is missing. The exhausts are in good shape but obviously not stock. Carbs have been disassembled and ultrasonically cleaned and jetted to match exhaust. The bike has pod air cleaners on it. Sorry for the long description but wanted to be as detailed as possible. I work out of the house so pick up or viewings are no problem. Thanks for looking. |
