Honda CRF description

Design

Honda's CRF 450R is one of the most successful motocross bikes ever to hit the circuit.  It continues to be a main stay of their product line even today.  To be honest, I bought the bike thinking I would transition from my ATVs but quickly learned its power exceeds by skill set.  Consequently it hasn't been ridden much since I bought it in 2008.

Here is an independent review by Kevin Duke, Editor MotorcycleUSA.com:

First Ride: 2005 Honda CRF450R

"The CRF450R has been winning races since it was first unleashed in 2002 to challenge Yamaha's YZ450F, the progenitor of the class. The mighty CRF has gone on to win not only Supercross and Motocross national races in the hands of Kevin Windham and Ricky Carmichael, it has also won national-level dirt tracks, TTs, GNCC enduros and desert events. And the CRF already has a supermoto championship under its belt, with Honda claiming nearly 60% of the entrants in the field.

The CRF was significantly updated in 2004, with a healthier motor, a Renthal handlebar and a weight saving of 3.0 pounds, among several other worthwhile upgrades. But in this competitive class, if you're standing still you're gonna get passed.

With that in mind, Honda has once again revised the CRF, making it lighter, stronger and faster.
Honda now claims a dry weight of 218.5 pounds, a drop of 3.5 from last year's model.

Each year, engineers spend countless hours in the pursuit of shaving grams from these race-ready machines, and each year the solutions get more creative and the materials used become more exotic. For instance, the rear hub of the 2005 CRF is made of a magnesium-silicon alloy that weighs 10% less (3.5 ounces) while being stronger than last year's model. A new aluminum swingarm retains the previous dual-axis, double-taper design, but is now almost 9 ounces lighter while preserving the rigidity of the previous component."

American Honda Played A Big Role In Bringing Nicky Hayden Back To Team Red

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

In late 2013, American Honda was presented with an opportunity to bring Nicky Hayden back to the Honda family, and renew the relationship that started in 1999 when Hayden was just 17. By retaining Hayden’s services to ride the Honda RCV1000R in the MotoGP World Championship series for the DRIVE M7 Aspar Team in the 2014 and 2015 seasons, American Honda is also now a proud sponsor of the DRIVE M7 Aspar Team. His first MotoGP season (2003) saw Hayden finish fifth in the championship on the Repsol Honda RC211V and win Rookie of the Year honors.

60's styled electric concept bike

Mon, 19 Mar 2012

This electric concept bike takes the styling of an Ossa Grand Prix ridden in late 1960s by Santiago Herrero and brings it into the 21st century. From Barcelona design studio ART-TIC the Monocasco takes its styling cues from Ossa's monocoque racing bike that was introduced at the end of the 1960s. Spain's first motorcycle Grand Prix hero, Herrero took the bike to four victories before his fatal crash in the 1970 Isle of Man TT.

Would you pay £115,000 for this?

Mon, 25 Oct 2010

A HONDA NR750 - one of the most hi-tech production motorcycles ever built - is up for grabs on eBay with an asking price of £115,000.The bike was produced in the early 1990s by Honda to showcase the company's engineering skills; a 32-valve, oval piston V4 engine, Carbon Fibre Composite bodywork and titanium-tinted screen are just some of the revolutionary features that warranted the bike's £37,000 original price tag. This particular 1993 model has covered 5000 miles from new - quite a few for a bike with such a heady price tag. We'd have expected it to come with delivery mileage only. It's being sold by an Essex-based dealer who describes the bike as 'IMMACULATE'.
