Honda Valkyrie description

This is a No Reserve auction.

Up for bids is a 1999 Honda Valkyrie Tourer. I purchased this bike from BMW/Triumph/Ducati in Daytona Beach a few months ago. I based my purchase decision on assurances about the bikes condition provided by their sales manager, Wilbur Craig. I was told the bike was traded for a new BMW and had passed inspection by their service department. Mr. Craig said there were no mechanical or cosmetic issues with the bike and he wouldn't hesitate to purchase the bike himself.  Unfortunately Mr. Craig lied about the overall condition of the bike. After considering my options, I have purchased a new bike from a local dealer I know and trust. This bike now needs a new home quickly and I have priced it accordingly.

Added Equipment: Kuryakyn rider and passenger pegs and highway pegs, handlebar risers, OEM luggage rack, and like new Mustang seat and passenger backrest.

Mechanical condition: Bike has 48,337 miles. The bike starts easily and runs smoothly. There appear to be no issues with the engine, transmission, or final drive. Exhaust is Honda OEM and appears to have never been modified.

Tires/brakes: The rear tire is in very good shape with plenty of wear left. The front is very worn and needs to be replaced. In the past the front wheel appears to have been installed incorrectly and the wheel is shifted to the left side of the bike. This should be easily corrected when the tire is replaced. The front brakes are noisy and pads should be checked.

Cosmetics: The bike needs a LOT of cosmetic TLC. The paint is overall in decent shape but there is some clouding and water spotting of the clearcoat in areas. There are some shallow scratches on the right saddlebag and some deep scratches on the left saddlebag (see pics). The radiator screen and horn are rusty. There are also rust spots on the headlamp housing and rear shock covers.  There is some wear and/or corrosion on the mirror stems, footpegs, and other exposed metal surfaces.

In summary, the bike appears to be mechanically sound but needs a new front tire and the front wheel reinstalled correctly. It also needs a lot of cosmetic attention and replacement of worn or rusty parts. It could be a good starting point for a mild restoration or a capable, inexpensive daily rider for someone who doesn't sweat the cosmetic stuff.

Bike is sold as is, where is. Buyer is responsible for any pick-up or shipping arrangements. A $500 deposit is due immediately after the end of the auction and should be paid via PayPal. Balance due is to be paid IN CASH within one week after the end of the auction.

Day 4 Dakar 2014: Juan Pedrero Wins Stage Aboard Sherco

Wed, 08 Jan 2014

Stage 4 of the 2014 Dakar saw Juan Pedrero take his maiden victory aboard a Sherco SR 450 Rally. Although not in contention for the overall, Pedrero showed he has outgrown his previous role as Marc Coma’s lieutenant at KTM by bringing his Sherco across the finish line 3:10 faster than third place Coma and 29 seconds faster than second place finisher Francisco Lopez. Coma’s performance in today’s stage moved him to only 3:10 behind overall leader Joan Barreda.

Italian Authorities Seize Alleged Knockoffs from EICMA Show – Again

Fri, 08 Nov 2013

In what’s become somewhat of a dubious EICMA tradition, Italian authorities have seized scooters from various show exhibitors because their designs allegedly infringed on the designs of other manufacturers. Back in 2011, authorities seized a three-wheeled scooter called the Yiben YB 250 ZKT because it was deemed to resemble the Piaggio MP3. Last year, authorities seized six models from five exhibitors that allegedly infringed on the trademarked design of Vespa scooters.

2013 Honda MSX125 – The Honda Monkey for the 21st Century

Wed, 09 Jan 2013

Honda announced a new 125cc motorcycle aimed for youths that draws its inspiration from the Honda Monkey mini-bikes first introduced in the ’60s. The new 2013 Honda MSX125 (which stands for “Mini Street X-treme 125″) will be manufactured in Thailand. At the moment, it has been confirmed for Europe and Japan, but there is no word about U.S.
