  • Honda CX500Honda CX500 (1978)
    Cleaning out the garage - I'm downsizing to a condominium and the bikes have to go.  I am the 2nd owner of this vintage CX500 that I bought in 1980.  It sat in the garage unused for a number of years as I moved on to a Harley Davidson and just lost interest in it.  I recently went through it and changed all the fluids and tinkered with it to get it ready for sale.  Everything works - all the electrics, drive-train, ...  although it does run poorly - unresponsive, surges a bit, but does idle just fine after it's warmed up.  No doubt this is because the carbs are likely gunked from sitting too long so they need a thorough cleaning.  This bike is all stock (except for the little clip-on windshield you see in the pictures).  The tank is clean inside with no dents but there is a blemish to the graphic on the right side where I spilled some brake fluid while filling the master cylinder and a nick where the seat meets the tank (small).  Seat is perfect - no rips or defects.  The right fork seal weeps a little bit of oil (not bad enough to replace) but I did replace the left one as it was leaking too much.  The tires look good but they're ancient and should be changed.  It does have the markings on the crankcase showing the that stator has been serviced (original owner took care of that).  It has all the normal wear and tear you would expect from a 35 year old bike.  It's a good starting point if you're a VJM enthusiast and want to do a concours restoration.

This bike also has the Honda Pan-America top box, not some cheap-o box whose color, quality, or finish isn't up to Honda's standard.  I've owned this bike for about 5 years now, and unfortunately other obligations have not allowed me to spend as much time on this bike as I would like to ride.  In my time owning it, I have replaced the brake fluid once (two years ago), and flushed the radiator fluid and oil change each year except for this year. I generally only put on 1000-2000 miles in a year on the bike.  I also for good measure put new brake pads on the bike after the first year that I owned it.  This nice bike is ready to ride.

Third Annual ‘The MEET’ at ACM

More than 2,000 attendees visited America’s Car Museum for its 3rd annual Vintage Motorcycle Festival ‘The MEET’ last weekend in Tacoma, Washington, where over 300 motorcycles and scooters were showcased on the Haub Family Field at LeMay. The event drew pre-1981 motorcycles and scooters from the U.S. and Canada, including an antique motorcycle display, swap meet, cruise-in and a 78-mile roundtrip tour from ACM’s Anderson Plaza to Mt. Rainier.

American Honda Signs Cole Seely To Factory Team

NHTSA Launches Recall Look-up by VIN Tool

Cal Crutchlow Leaves Ducati for LCR Honda

Honda Reports Q1 2014-2015 Sales Results

Honda reported sales of 4.137 million motorcycles over its first quarter ended June 30, 2014. That represents a 2.0% increase over the results of the same quarter the previous year, which doesn’t sound like much. But then you remember that 2.0% still represents an additional 83,000 motorcycles (including ATVs), such is the scale involved in a company like Honda.
