The new CBR250R is the 1st major competition the Kawasaki Ninja 250 has faced since the early 1990s. The CBR was lauded for having more torque available at lower engine speeds, meaning that it is easier to accelerate from low speed and pulling away required less noise and drama, since the Ninja has to be revved to 9,000 rpm and above to make use of its greater power. Today, however, Yamaha Factory Racing rider Cyril Despres took his second special stage win of 2014 and his 33rd career win for Dakar. Coma, despite taking a 15 minute penalty, finished second for the day, maintaining his overall lead.
