Honda Other description

For sale is my excellent condition 1985 Honda VF1000R Interceptor.  This is a legit 400 mile bike in really amazing original condition.  Probably no other VF1000R like this in the country! The bike is immaculate with the original exhaust, wheels, body parts, everything. The body is in 400 mile condition with the exception of tiny flaws noted.  The bike had sat indoors for 25 years and the tires were junk and all fluids needed replacing. The good news is that it was in a dry indoor space with a cover over it and there is no corrosion on any fasteners, aluminum, parts are all as-new condition. The bike is immaculate (see pictures). The seat is like a brand new bike, the cowl is perfect, the paint is original and beautiful, all of the fiberglass is factory new. This is a 9.9 out of 10 bike and is better than buying a brand new one in 1985 owing to the well-considered upgrades!

I bought this bike from a guy who had it parked and covered for close to 25 years in a large car-garage. I currently own a second Interceptor (10k mile 1986 VF1000R) so I bought this bike to simply be my one collector but I still wanted to be able to ride it.  I paid $11,600 for the bike and spent another $3,149 to get the bike in ride-ready perfect condition. I'm not looking to get all my money back as I never intended to sell it, but I will not sell it for less than 10 grand.  I rode it into work (45 miles) three weeks ago and it ran flawlessly.

Before even starting it, I did a major overhaul/full service at Adrenaline Cycle in Seekonk, MA which included all fluids, flushed brakes, add stainless steel braided brake lines, rebuilt rear master cylinder, lube and adjust throttle and clutch cables, flush cooling system, torque and check all chassis fittings and fasteners, replace shock (rear) with Hagon coil-over upgrade, Check/tighten steering head bearings, test charging system, replace battery, NGK spark plugs, oil filter with adapter for top-end oiling kit (Daughtry Motorsports), compression check and full tune, clean and synch carbs, flush fuel tank and add 1 gallon bath metal rust remover, replace petcock assembly (leaking).  Tank still had metal particles after etching and flush so re-acid etched and treated fuel tank with POR-15 cycle tank repair kit.

The new parts used/modifications I made were all selected to provide daily-driver reliability and address some of the inherent problems with the bike.  Here is what I did:

Non-OEM parts include:

1.  Stainless steel braided brake lines (discarded original lines)

2.  Hagon center shock/coil-over by Daughtry Motorsports (original mint condition air adjustable shock is included with the bike but they are notorious for leaking pressure and there are no re-build kits available and I don't trust the original units with my life-like the brake lines). Shock was valved and springs for me being a 180 lb. solo rider optimum.

3. Engine top-end oiling kit from Daughtry Motorsports (early VF1000's were reported to suffer top end oiling deficiency and this kit addreses that fully).

4.  Replaced original tires (old and cracked) with brand new Bridgestone Battlax BT45's.  Went to 150/70/17 rear (stock was 140) and 120/80/16 front (stock size).

The condition of the bike is absolutely beautiful. There are some tiny cosmetic flaws from almost 30 years of existence. I have photographed these. Nick (touched up) on front forks and fender. Before I got the bike it had fallen over and scratched the mirror (see pic) and cracked the aluminum foot peg on the right side. This was replaced with a perfect foot peg bracket found on ebay (see pic), there is touch-up paint from the lip of the gas tank (see pic). The inside of the tank had significant corrosion, I tried a etching and flush, but there were still small tiny particles, so I decided to do the complete 3-part fuel tank coating and it is now perfect.

Comes with Pit Bull rear wheel stand shown, original manual, original tool kit, two (2) original keys, original magazine with test article, original factory dealer brochure, and battery tender leads connected with charger lead indicator decal. I have not registered the bike and it comes with a bill of sale and the 1989 issued Title that lists the second owner. The first owner was the guys dad apparently.

I am happy to answer any questions and the bike is available for inspections by appointment.

NOTE: I will be traveling for business next week Thurs-Sat and will have limited access to this auction, so please don't wait til the last minute with questions.  I shall endeavor to answer all questions promptly.

Lastly, I have recently sold two of my 1983 CB1100F's and a nice 1982 Katana 550MZ. If you are serious about owning one of the nicest VF1000R's in the country this is the right bike. I require payment in certified check or money order. I will not accept personal checks and funds need to be sent, recvd, and cleared before bike will ship. Will send title and bill of sale when funds arrive.

Video: Honda Crossrunner v mountain pass

Fri, 01 Apr 2011

This road (the one in the video) was a previously unseen, super-steep mountain pass which needed first gear for the hairpins and second between them with an occasional grab at third on the quicker sections. It was the sort of road that pumps up your forearms and makes you crane your neck to see what's coming next (mainly cyclists). The surface was rubbish.

2014 AMA Supercross – St. Louis Results

Mon, 31 Mar 2014

Don’t look now, but James Stewart is the hottest rider in the AMA Supercross Championship. The Yoshimura Suzuki rider won his third consecutive race and series-leading fifth victory of the season. But with Kawasaki‘s Ryan Villopoto holding a comfortable lead with four rounds remaining, Stewart’s hot streak may be too little too late.
