The 1985 Honda V65 Sabre stood out from the crowd not only because of its record-shattering quarter mile performance ( around 11 seconds) but also because it was powered by a V-4 engine in a crowd of inline 4 cylinders competitors

It was a high performance machine that brake the mold:

Not a cruiser, standard or a sport bike, it has a style on its own and boasted the kind of stump pulling engine performance that the inline four of the day couldn't match

The power plant feature liquid-cooling twin cam heads, six speed gearbox and a low maintenance shaft final drive

Pumping a walloping 121 HP , the mighty Sabre can launch from a standstill to 50 miles per hour in just 2.31 seconds

In addition , the 90-degreeV-4 package is physically narrower than the transverse four cylinder engines and the Sabre's forward bank of cylinders help ensure sufficient front-end weight bias for excellent steering

The chassis components are equally impressive, cast six spokes wheels front and back, single shock rear suspension and a beefy 41 mm leading fork with TRAC anti dive system

On top of that the Sabre was smooth , versatile and comfortable enough for touring

Ronax 500 – the Street Legal Two-Stroke GP Replica

Mon, 09 Jun 2014

After teasing us for nearly two months, German brand Ronax has revealed its 500cc two-stroke sportbike. Ronax isn’t saying it’s a street-legal replica of the Honda NSR500 that Valentino Rossi rode to win the 2001 Grand Prix world championship – probably because they legally can’t – but that’s essentially what the 500 is. The Honda Collection Halls in Motegi

Fri, 14 Oct 2011

I thought you may have to be from a certain era to enjoy the Honda Collection Halls in Motegi but I was wrong. This immaculate museum has hundreds of race and road bikes on display starting with the first ever (wooden) motorcycle built right up to the amazing machines Pedrosa and co are campaigning this year. Being part of the Honda owned Motegi Twin Ring circuit complex, I was expecting it to be a Honda only zone so was amazed to see lots of iconic bikes from other manufacturers also on display.

Joey Dunlop on a V4 Honda at the '83 TT

Fri, 28 Sep 2012

Onboard video footage doesn't get a lot better than this: Joey Dunlop during practice at the TT in 1983 onboard a factory Honda RS850R. An 859cc ultra-short stroke V4 Honda that Joey mastered around The Island, later winning the TT Formula 1. Although the 'production' race, the RS850R stretched that to the limit.
