Honda Gold Wing description

This was one of my retirement toys I purchased brand new.  Enjoyed just tooling around on it & making a several of multi day road trips.  Really don't want to sell it but age & health are not allowing me to ride much anymore & I can't justify just letting it sit in the garage.  Although it has a lot of miles, it has been meticulously maintained (records & receipts go with it), all those miles were were gently acquired. This bike looks & runs like a new one.  I have added more than $12K in additional electronics, LED lighting & appearance items (owner/operator manuals for most go with the bike).  There is also a set of Fred Harmon's maintenance CDs that are included.  I will provide a spreadsheet detailing all maintenance done.  Oil, filter & final drive oil were changed every 5K miles & regular maintenance accomplished.  This bike lives in the garage when not being ridden, when on a trip it is under a cover when parked (two full covers, one used, one new will go with the bike).

This bike came with ABS braking, heated seating, heated hand grips & in dash GPS navigation.  I swapped out the stock hand grips for larger Honda  heated grips with chrome detail to fit my big hands.  I installed a dual Gerbing heat controller, so you can just plug a heated suit right in.  A full complement of Baker wind deflectors were added to assist in climate control for the rider & passenger.  A V-stream adjustable windscreen with vent keeps the wind at bay and an adjustable back rest keeps you comfortable in the saddle.  Front & rear floor boards, heal/toe shifter & highway pegs complete the rider comfort items. The passengers foot boards adjust & the passenger has arm rests to make them more comfortable.

Dual GPS navigation (one factory in dash + a Zumo 665) makes finding your way around a breeze.  The Zumo integrates with the bikes sound system & connects to your cell phone via bluetooth.  Earphones & mike in your helmet allow you to use your phone, transmit on the CB or converse with a passenger hands free while riding.  The bikes sound system + mic mutes & Kenedy cell set allow you total access to the intercom, both GPS units, the CB radio & both MP3 players.  Yes there are dual MP3 players (one in the Zumo + a J&M digital).  All of this is integrated into the bikes sound system so you can listen to (ear phone or speakers) & control all of it while riding.

There is a digital voltage gauge & a separate LED voltage monitor allowing you to monitor your electrical system.  All of the lights except the headlight, the fog lights & the front turn signals have been converted to LEDs to limit work load on the alternator.  A Doran tire pressure monitor instantly warns you of a imminent flat tire or low tire pressure.  There is an alarm with adjustable proximity warning installed.  The alarm sounds at the bike, disables the ignition and sends a signal to a small remote so you know when it is activated.  In addition to factory turn signal lighting, there are LED strobe lights that flash when activated.  The LED brake lights strobe a settable pattern when brakes are applied.  There are LED accent lights on the front fender, engine cover, saddle bags & license plate..  Glare resistant Muth mirrors with LED turn signals complete the lighting enhancements.  The headlight has a modulator you can control (off/on, fast/slow) to enhance your visibility to others.    I don't think you can be TOO visible on a bike.

This bike has a Bushtech trailer hitch installed.  The receiver sits under the rear fender out of sight.  There are two removable tongues (one with a ball, one with a luggage platform) that go into the receiver.  I have used the luggage platform but this bike has never towed a trailer.  The trailer wiring harness will go with the bike, it was never installed.  All the take off parts that were replaced with upgrades will go with the bike.

2012 Honda Gold Wing Tour: Part 4

Fri, 20 May 2011

Yesterday aboard the 2012 Honda Gold Wing was quite an eye opener. I had shared my impressions of some of the upgrades to the new Wing in blog posts earlier in the week (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3), but these focused mostly on some comfort and convenience updates and the bike’s ability to eat up open stretches of pavement. But on this day we put the Wing to a completely different test: the Tail of the Dragon, US 129 in North Carolina.

Remember push starts?

Fri, 18 Nov 2011

Alongside the most stunning collection of race and road bikes at their Motegi museum, next to some race bikes, Honda also has a step by step guide on most aspects of riding. I photographed the wonderful text on push starting but I also have lots of equally hilarious instructions on cornering braking and even what a riders goal should be. Watch this space...... oh, and hopefully see you at the NEC over the next ten days!
