Honda CRF description

Up for auction is probably the best kept secret in roadracing...  a GP450 prepped CRF450R.  The GP450 class was a series initiated by the AMA as a fun and inexpensive way to get people into roadracing.  Essentially, you take an (relatively) inexpensive and ubiquitous dirt bike (CRF/YZ/KX/KTM), make some tweaks, put a fairing on it and go road racing.  Simple, Fun, Safe.  That was the idea, but then big names got into it and to be competitive -costs/parts skyrocketed (as evidenced below).

I loved the idea behind this because I'm getting older (road raced over 20yrs -everything from RS125s to KTM RC8Rs) and have a fifteen year old son.  I saw this platform as inexpensive to run, safe (he wasnt getting on the 180hp RSVR), competitive (Ultra Lightweight) and most of all -FUN.  and so i started looking for the right core bike and what the best set ups were.

That was the plan.  But life takes a funny approach to your best laid plans...

About a year ago, i had a really nasty enduro accident (300XCWe with a stuck throttle vs a tree) and almost lost my leg.  Needless to say, when you are still learning how to walk -you dont think too much about your next track day.  And so the bike is up for auction.

The bike started life a very clean CRF450R.  From there, no expense was spared.  The Race Tech setup -which makes this handle like a MOTO3 bike- (Race Tech machined triple clamps, Woodcraft clip-ons, fork upper machining, custom billet radial mount lowers, shock shortening, valving, springing) alone was over $4,000.  The new Marchesini forged/billet wheels and the STM slipper clutch inside were another pile of money.  It is a alot of high end/expensive kit for a fifteen year old...  but i would use it too and old habits (and penchant for good parts) dies hard.

The bike rides on brand new Marchesini forged aluminum supermoto wheels.  Tires are brand new Michelin 125GP/Supermoto slicks (just two break-in laps on them).  Front brake is a billet Brembo radial mounted unit.  Forks/Suspension is discussed above.  Clutch- brand new plates and a new STM slipper clutch.  Actuated by a hydraulic Magura left hand lever, right hand is a Brembo master cylinder.  Throttle cables are custom lengthened.  Hoses are silicon.  Bodywork was professionally sprayed Audi Racing Blue (Red Bull) and the graphics are all vinyl -so if you dont like them...  just peel them off.

Spares-  bike comes with A COMPLETE SET OF NEW/UNPAINTED FAIRINGS, smaller sprocket for longer tracks, a full shim kit for valve adjustments, a few extra windscreens and a complete water pump rebuild kit -new, still sealed. (i thought last time i started it, the weep hole had a drop in it- so got this just in case.)

So that's the meat of it.  The bike is probably the best bang for buck or grin per dollar that you can find.  Easy and cheap to maintain.  Fun, nimble and competitive to ride.  Fully sorted, and one hell of a great bargain.  Weather you buy it for your kid, use it as an Ultra Lightweight Superbike contender, or hell- buy it and put the wheels/brakes/slipper clutch/pipe on your motard project and part the rest out...   whatever you do with it, at this price its impossible to lose.

If you have any questions, need larger photos, or need something specific photographed?  just ask.  Local pickup is of course preferred.  The bike is very VERY light so easy/inexpensive to ship.  Any sort of delivery is the sole responsibility of the purchaser.  Opening bid is literally less than 1/3rd of what i have in this thing.  $500 deposit required within 48hrs of auction close.

with that, thanks for looking and happy Ebaying.

Tue, 09 Mar 2010

SEE THE MACHINE that could propel Britain to a new motorcycle land speed world record at The Race Retro 2010 show, held at Stoneleigh Park, Coventry from 12th to 14th March. Almost a year has passed since Visordown broke the news of the planned UK assault on the land speed record - this coming August the Angelic Bulldog team travels to Bonneville, where it is hoping to smash the 400mph barrier and bring the motorcycle Land Speed Record back to the UK for the first time since 1937. The current record stands at 360.913mph over a kilometre.

Hot Lap Around Spa-Francorchamps With Xavier Simeon

Fri, 20 Jan 2012

If you’re a fan of motorsport on both two and four wheels like me, then you should be familiar with the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. Here, Belgian native Xavier Simeon, the 2009 FIM Superstock 1000 champion and current Moto2 competitor, does a couple flying laps around his home track aboard a Honda CBR600RR at what appears to be a trackday. The speed he carries and the smoothness of his riding are simply extraordinary.
