Honda CL description
1972 HONDA CL450 Scrambler All Original The CL450 Scrambler hardly needs an introduction. If you are reading this ad, then you likely know the history of these bikes. Following the immediate success of Honda's CL72 250cc Scrambler and the famous Dave Ekins/Bill Robertson Tijuana to La Paz ride in March of 1962 on 250 Scramblers, Honda decided to increase the engine size in increments from 250 to 305, and finally using the DOHC engine of the original Black Bomber, to 450cc. This particular bike is a 1972 model in its original red paint. The paint is shiny but has numerous flaws and scratches. There are some small dents in the fuel tank. All of the chrome is original. The fenders are nice and straight. The bars have been slightly bent, but are usable. The brake perch is broken (still usable) however, an NOS perch is included. All of the chrome is shiny, but has small pits, or freckling, or slight rust. All of the cables and wiring is original. The rear exhaust shield is incorrect. The bike shows 1098 miles, but I do not believe the mileage is that low. The seat is original upholstery, but has a couple small holes. It is still nice otherwise. The tires are old and will need to be replaced before riding. Overall the bike looks good, and the cosmetics are perfect for a daily driver. I bought this Honda earlier this year in a package of cars/bikes. It was not running, but the motor was free. I soda blasted the carbs, rebuilt them, rebuilt the petcock, adjusted the valves, installed new points, timed it spot-on, installed a new battery and fired it up. It started immediately on the button (electric starter). It doesn't smoke and it has good compression, HOWEVER, the chain noise is excessive so I have not run the bike for more than a minute or so. I have decided to sell it the way it is-starting immediately on the button, but with lots of chain noise. My passion is older British bikes, so I will not dig into this one..... All of the lights work, as well as the turn signals. It shifts through the gears, but I did not ride the bike to check the condition of the transmission. It appears to be a matching numbers bike. The frame # is CL450-5000255 and the engine # is CL450E-5000277. The numbers are close which is the way they all came from the factory. Please contact me if you have any questions. This motorcycle is sold with a clear California title in my name. It is currently on a "non-op" so there are no back registration fees. This motorcycle is not advertised elsewhere, and this auction is the exclusive opportunity to purchase it. There is a reasonable reserve on this auction. This is a RARE opportunity to obtain a very desirable machine. These are RAPIDLY appreciating and NOW is the time to buy! Please ask any and all questions and read the terms below before bidding.
