Honda CBR description

If you are reading this you probably know about these amazing motorcycles. Up for sale is a rare low mileage first year Honda CBR1100XX Super Blackbird. It's namesake was the supersonic SR-71 "Blackbird" ultra high altitude spy plane. It's been called the Brough Superior SS100 of the modern era and like the Brough it was exclusive and expensive when new. In 1997 dollars this Blackbird cost a whopping $11,499! (a bloody fortune in today's Bernanke Bucks!)

When introduced the Blackbird redefined what a gentleman's supersports touring motorcycle could be. It was capable of speeds exceeding all other marques in it's day, It was clocked at over 170+MPH making it the fastest production motorcycle in the world. But the CBR1100XX is not just fast. It features the innovative design, precision engineering and impeccable build quality and finish of Honda. Awesomely fast and powerful yet always smooth, balanced and well mannered. Today this Blackbird is still capable of covering vast distances at three digit speeds in comfort and style with unmatched reliability. It is no wonder that serious riders and collectors agree that Honda's amazing Blackbird belongs on the short list of all-time great motorcycles.

(See the Bird in action - check out all the videos on YouTube. Search Blackbird Road Test,  Brough Superior)

This beautiful low mileage first model year original has been adult owned and always stored inside It has been used gently and sparingly with only 5808 original miles. (mileage may increase slightly during the auction or elect to Buy Now and it will be parked). The motorcycle has never been wrecked, dropped or damaged and has never suffered deterioration due to abuse, neglect or lack of regular use.

This motorcycle has just received a comprehensive service including replacement of all fluids, filters, cooling and fuel hoses, thermostat, spark plugs, new tires, etc. Fly-in and ride to ANYWHERE with confidence. The lustrous original jet black bodywork was carefully removed to gain access to underlying mechanicals which were all thoroughly serviced and cleaned. The bodywork was cleaned inside and out, polished and then properly refitted. The results are stunning.

After 16 years there are will be a few minor scuffs and scratches. I have tried to point them out in the pictures. Most are so miniscule as to be difficult to see and no effort has been made to touch them up. I mention it only because I would rather you be pleasantly surprised rather than dissapointed!

The bike is completely stock with the exception of Jardine slip on exhaust and a removable solo seat cowling. The bike was properly re-jetted and dyno'd when the performance exhaust system was installed. It runs very strong. The exhaust note is not obnoxiously loud around town or at speed but she definitely produces an intimidating howl at full open throttle....if you dare.

Included are the original factory tool kit, original owners manual, official Honda service/repair guide, dyno report /graphs and 1997 Rider magazine issue with article featuring the Blackbird. The original stock exhaust pipes are available for Buy Now. (Note that the bike will need to be re-jetted to go back to the original system). If your riding interests lean toward serious long distance touring I have a line on a complete set of color matching GIVI monokey hard bags and rear top case with original brackets at additional cost. Buy Now and I will hook you up.

If you ever wanted to own an exceptionally original Honda CBR1100XX Super Blackbird this may be your last chance. So Buy Now......or it could be bye bye Blackbird!

The motorcycle is for sale locally and may be sold at any time. The Buy Now price of $6,495 is in line with recent sales of comparable low mileage first year original CBR1100XX's. You may contact me at anytime during the auction to elect to Buy Now. The reserve price is not cheap but fully justified given the rarity, condition and "no expense spared" service and preparation recently lavished on this extraordinary motorcycle. Beyond finances I truly want to find the right home for this special motrorcycle.

The motorcycle is located in Richmond Virginia. Inspection at buyers expense and must be done prior to bidding. Sold as-is where-is. No warranty expressed or implied. Zero, low or negative feedback bidders may be disqualified. A non-refundable deposit of $500 will be required within 24 hours of auction end. Full payment of balance required before pickup or shipment. Local bank drafts, cashiers checks or wired funds may be acceptable but must clear before the machine will be released. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. I will coordinate with your carrier to pick up. No post auction re-trading. ESnipe/automated bids may be disqualified.

WSBK 2012: Assen Results

Mon, 23 Apr 2012

The Netherlands hosted a dramatic weekend of World Superbike racing that featured a red-flagged wet race, several riders crashing while leading, a first-time race winner, a photo finish between two teammates and the reigning World Champion finishing out of the points because of a poor choice of tires. The 2011 WSBK Champion Carlos Checa arrived at Assen with the lead in the championship and a three-race winning streak, but opting to run wet tires in Race Two cost him the lead and may have contributed to a crash that severely injured Liberty Racing‘s Brett McCormick. Gardner chilling out and taking it easy

Wed, 14 Jul 2010

Away from the pressures of being a Grand Prix racer in the days when fierce on-track battles and unexpected highsides were common place, Wayne Gardner throws a Honda VFR750F around Oran Park in Australia. The bike that Wayne is likely to be riding is special VFR750F, that was given the codename '6X'. The VFR was an experiment with prototype components including titanium valves and magnesium flat-slide carburetors, the result was the bike that weighed less than a factory RC30.
