Honda CB description

Up for auction is a project bike that wants to be something great.  It's a turbocharged 1971 Honda CB500 with Benelli fuel tank, extended swing arm, Tarozzi throttle control, and Dellorto carburetor.  This bike used to hang on the wall of Carpy's old speed shop in SoCal until he threw it on ebay, where I bought it.  It's in the same cosmetic condition as when I received it, but I have obtained a Clear California Pink Slip, and I have had the bike running - it sounds like a MotoGP bike, or a horde of angry bees. The turbo exhaust manifold is not the more common log type from ATP (American Turbo Pak) and may be a one-off, or prototype piece.  The turbo is an IHI unit, and the manifold on the intake side is from ATP.  The turbo spins freely with little to no play.

The story from Carpy was that the bike was built for the salt.  The clearest pieces of evidence to back that up are the extended swing arm, and the motor built with a CB550 bottom end for its better transmission, along with 498cc cylinders from a CB500 to qualify for the under 500cc class.  It has matching 18" aluminum rims, and a pretty sweet bump seat.

3-ohm Dyna coils and a set of points were installed to get the bike running.  The bike has no charging system, gauges, or front brakes.

This is not a running/riding bike, but it is a great base for a very cool and unique bike for the street, or the salt some day.

Shipping and/or pickup of the bike will be the sole responsibility of the buyer.  The bike is stored safely in Cotati California, 94931.  A deposit of $250 will be required within 48 hours of the auction's end, and the remainder to be paid by bank wire transfer, or cash on pickup.  No refunds.

The bike was previously listed in an incorrect category, and ebay pulled the listing.

2022 Honda Navi First Look

What this country needs is a good $1,807 Honda We’ve all been there. You want a new motorcycle, but you’re scared a Grom might be a little too much for you to handle. A man’s got to know his limitations, as Clint Eastwood famously said (but he also meant woman, child, and all other people however they identify).

Tested: Dual Clutch Transmission

Been blasting all around the UK on my Crosstourer DCT this summer. The bike is mega in a Range Rovery-posh and grunty kind of a way. But it’s that engine and gearbox that transcend the normal into new realms of brilliance. I’ve been doing my best not to bore people too much about DCT but it’s hard.

And it's goodbye from him

THIS IS Valentino Rossi's farewell letter to his Fiat Yamaha team following the announcement the flambouyant Italian is to head to Ducati MotoGP in 2011.The hand-written letter, mistakes and all, is written in almost a 'my first romance' kinda way. It's touching, if a little bizarre. Some of the letter reads:“Unfortunately even the most beautiful love stories finish, but they leave a lot of wonderful memories, like when my M1 and I kissed for the first time on the grass at Welkom, when she looked straight in my eyes and told me ‘I love you!'"Somehow, we can't see Casey Stoner gushing quite as freely when he leaves Ducati for Repsol Honda.
