2003 Road King Classic (FLHRCI)
The Story: You are bidding on the most pampered, upgraded, and clean 100th anniversary Road King Classic that you will find. The performance upgrades described below put this bike's roll on acceleration and top end performance well above a stock machine. However, the best thing about this bike is that it is set up for long haul touring. Notice the high end seat with detachable back rests, highway pegs, detachable wind screen, passenger and rider foot boards, factory cruise control, detachable tour pack, chrome wind deflectors, windshield pouch, right side saddle bag bar pouch, and mild touring ape bars. Why am I selling? Check out the baby stuff in the background in some of the pictures. I've ridden for 29 years (since I was 18) but was recently blessed to have a wonderful little girl come into my life. The wife and I used to spend weekends and our vacation time on our bike(s)...that very adult hobby is not kid friendly and I am now spending my weekends and vacation with my little girl. No room for motorcycles at the moment. I'm getting out of the motorcycle hobby for 18 years or so for her.
The Handlebars: The bars put your arms at the most natural position just at or below shoulder level...the improvement over stock bars, which strained the back after about 20 minutes, was dramatic. If you don't like them, but you will, you can buy stock bars on ebay for about $30...they are everywhere because so many people swap them out.
The Seat and Backrests: The Mustang seat and detachable backrest(s) are about a $600 upgrade. Again, this is a dramatic improvement over stock...few stay with the stock seat for long on these bikes...and Mustang is the best.
Heat Shields: Take a close look at the black heat shields between the seat and tank right about where your inner thighs would be. These shields are made for touring bikes of this era and keep the engine heat off of your inner thighs. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST. The heat is intense on the inner leg otherwise and makes a long ride on a warm day very uncomfortable.
The Chrome: The wife and I owned a bike shop for a couple of years a while back. Therefore, every chrome upgrade you can imagine has been installed. Chrome dash button, chrome engine covers, chrome transmission cover, chrome wind deflectors, chrome break/clutch levers, chrome headlight trim, chrome oil filler cap, chrome key hole cover, chrome braided brake/clutch cables, chrome starter motor cover, chrome, chrome, chrome. You get the picture. If they made it chromed, I bought it.
Condition: It is a 9.5 out of a 10. It is not perfect, but it is close...there are some small (very small) scuffs and nicks here and there. Nothing noteworthy. No issues with the paint...it is clean and virtually like it was the day I bought it in 2003. Breaks are good, tires good, engine runs flawlessly, lights and lenses all good, horn (air) good. Everything works and runs like new.

Top of the line Mustang touring seat with backrests. Backrests both detachable. You may not buy my bike but whatever bike you buy it better come with Mustang seats...the stock seats on Road Kings of this era are torture devices...same goes for the stock bars.

Don't be put off by the ape bars...they are milder than they look, note they curve back toward the rider...and were an absolute necessity as the stock bars were the most uncomfortable things you can imagine. These bars are VERY comfortable when combined with the seating position, foor boards, and highway pegs make for the best riding highway bike I've ever been on.

What is it worth?: The bike's value is different for every person. As a starting point the Kelly Blue Book lists it at $10,440 retail / $7600 trade in. Of course, this bike has probably $10,000 of upgrades over the average 2003 Road King Classic. There is no catch...bike is beautiful and virtually perfect. I had lots of fun on this bike but now it is time to let it go.
